Abstract: In one method and apparatus for blocking unwanted calls in a callback system, parameters associated with a callback request (e.g., the user device to which the call is to be directed, the IP address from which the request originated or an identifier of the source computer from which the callback request originated, the party from whom the call is requested) are tracked for each call. A decision to automatically block the requested callback is made based on one or more criteria based on a combination of these parameters, which may be a total over a period of time. In a second method, one or both of the parties to the callback is queried as to whether the callback is unwanted and, if so, one or more parameters associated with the request are blacklisted.

Abstract: In on embodiment, techniques for providing alerts to a user when a communication frequency pattern between a user and a contact has not occurred during a pre-determined amount of time are provided. Communication records between the contact and the user can be analyzed to determine if the communication frequency pattern with the contact during the pre-determined amount of time does not meet pre-determined criteria. For example, the criteria may be generate an alert if communications do not occur in the last month, generate an alert if less than five communications occur in the last six months, or any other communication pattern. Also, the content of a communication may be analyzed to determine if a certain topic has been discussed. If a certain topic has not been discussed during the pre-determined amount of time, an alert may also be generated reminding the user that the topic has not been discussed.

Abstract: A statistical-data collecting-and-providing apparatus receives, through a statistical-data-acquisition-criterion setting interface, setting of a statistical-data acquisition criterion and setting of a notification destination, which is a destination of statistical data delivery. Subsequently, the statistical-data collecting-and-providing apparatus collects statistical data based on the thus-received statistical-data acquisition criterion. Thereafter, the statistical-data collecting-and-providing apparatus delivers the thus-collected statistical data to a service-providing application server, which is the notification destination received through the statistical-data-acquisition-criterion setting interface.

Abstract: The present invention provides a system and method of modifying policy settings in a network having a plurality of subscriber devices. An embodiment includes a plurality of base stations, each capable of wirelessly transmitting across a geographic region and a server. A cell-phone, capable of roaming between regions, is operable to establish a wireless link with the base stations and through the base stations, with the server. The network contains a communication policy determining from which other communication devices a subscriber device can receive voice calls. The communication policy is updated, by the server, based on requests from the subscriber devices. Once a request is received from a subscriber device, the determination whether to update the communication policy can be based on a record of rejections respective to the caller requested to be blocked. Alternatively, the communication policy can be updated according to a trust policy maintained on the server respective to the subscriber device making the request; the trust policy represents the procedure to follow when a request is received from that subscriber device.

Abstract: The present invention allows monitoring and the prevention of call storms in a communications network, e.g., a VoIP network. More specifically, the present invention enables a VoIP network to monitor the calling pattern, e.g., the number of calls within a period of time that occurs between the same endpoints. If the number of calls exceed a certain threshold, then these calls with the same endpoints will be terminated and an alarm notification will be sent, e.g., to a network operator.

Abstract: An expected wait time calculation system generates an expected wait time value representing a time duration expected to elapse before a subject client is connected to a resource for servicing. The expected wait time calculation system comprises an interface to a work force management system for obtaining an indicator of a quantity of resources available for servicing clients. An interface to a queuing system obtains an indicator of a queue position of the subject client. A FIFO array stores a plurality of measured time intervals, each representing a time period between two successive resource queue decrement events. The measured time intervals may be stored in a chronological order. An average time interval, or rate, calculator determines an average time interval by calculating an average of a selected quantity of those most recently measured time intervals from the FIFO array or a rate by dividing a unit of time by the average time interval. An expected wait time calculator determines an expected wait time value as a function a quantity of clients expected to be serviced prior to the subject client multiplied by the average time interval or divided by the rate.

Abstract: A system for operation and maintenance of network devices, including a device layer including at least one network device and a pre-processing layer including pre-processing device(s); the network device obtains a CDR of a call and transmits the CDR to the pre-processing device; the pre-processing device filters the CDR and performs centralized operation and maintenance of network devices. The network device forming the device layer, the pre-processing device forming the pre-processing layer and a method for operation and maintenance of network devices in the above system are also provided. Through the technical scheme, call services are separated from operation and maintenance management and functions of the network devices are unified, which results in more stable operation of the network devices; the operation and maintenance management will be more flexible and it becomes easier to monitor the whole network and to perform operation and maintenance of network devices.
