Abstract:
Methods, systems, apparatus and machine readable media are disclosed to reduce biological carryover. An example method includes generating an alternating electromagnetic field and introducing an aspiration and dispense device into the electromagnetic field. The example method also includes inductively heating the aspiration and dispense device with the electromagnetic field to at least one of denature or deactivate at least one of a protein or a biological entity on a surface of the aspiration and dispense device.
Abstract:
The present disclosure provides methods for carrying out Romanowsky-type stains, specifically Wright-Giemsa and May-Grünwald stains, quickly and efficiently. The methods greatly reduce the overall amount of time required to complete a Wright-Giemsa stain or a May-Grünwald stain of sufficient quality on a biological sample. The subject methods can be applied to both manual and automated staining procedures.
Abstract:
In accordance with the present invention there is provided a suturing device. The suturing device includes a length of suture that will be delivered to the site of the PFO and placed through the tissue adjacent the opening to close the PFO. As described in greater detail below, the suture is advanced through the tissue surrounding the opening by a pair of needles that penetrate the tissue adjacent to the opening. A knot is then loosely tied with the length of suture and advanced to the site of the PFO. The tails of the suture extending from the knot are then cut and removed. It is also contemplated that a pre-formed or pre-tied knot may be disposed on the device, wherein after deployment of the suture through the tissue adjacent to the PFO and removal of the device a loop of suture having a pre-tied knot will remain, wherein the pre-tied knot may then be tightened to close the PFO. Further still it is contemplated that other means may be utilized to retain the sutures. For example, it is contemplated that a suture clip or other clip like device may be utilized to retain the suture in a position such that the PFO is closed.
Abstract:
Disclosed are compositions, such as liquid and solid nutritional compositions, that contain beta-hydroxy-beta-methylbutyric acid and optionally at least one protein, carbohydrate, fat, or a combination of protein, carbohydrate, and fat. Also disclosed are methods of using the compositions for improving physical endurance, locomotion, mobility and cognition in an individual, including a pediatric individual.
Abstract:
Device, system, method of coating an expandable member is provided. The method comprises providing an expandable member with a plurality of folds defined therein, the expandable member having a folded configuration and a fully expanded configuration at a rated nominal pressure. The expandable member is inflated to an initial pressure of from 10% to about 300% of nominal pressure. A therapeutic agent is disposed on at least a portion of the expandable member. The expandable member is partially deflated to an intermediate pressure by withdrawing an amount of inflation medium from the expandable member, and by applying an external force to the expandable member.
Abstract:
Disclosed are nutritional compositions comprising a dryblended mixture of a neat cereal beta-glucan and a resistant starch. The dryblending of the neat cereal beta-glucan and the resistant starch improves the cold water solubility of the nutritional compositions. The dryblended nutritional compositions may further include a Salacia extract.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a catheter for delivery of a self-expanding stent into a body lumen, comprising a shaft having a distal end and a proximal end, the shaft defining a lumen and a stent accommodating portion at its outside for carrying a self-expanding stent, a catheter tip arranged at the distal end of the shaft, a sheath arranged concentrically to the shaft, a pusher coil arranged concentrically in between the shaft and the sheath, and proximal to the stent accommodating portion, wherein the sheath comprises an inside layer, an outside layer, and a wire layer of interwoven wires, the wire layer being arranged in between the inside layer and the outside layer.
Abstract:
Compositions for improving bone health, joint health, or both in an individual in need thereof are provided, along with methods of using the compositions. Generally, the compositions include a combination of Curcumin and Vitamin K2. The compositions may also include a protein, a carbohydrate, and a fat. The compositions and methods may be particularly useful in the treatment or prevention of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, osteopenia, and osteoporosis.
Abstract:
Disclosed are nutritional formulations including predigested fats that can be administered to preterm infants, infants, toddlers, and children for improving tolerance, digestion, and absorption of nutrients and for reducing the incidence of necrotizing enterocolitis, colic, and short bowel syndrome. The predigested fats include fatty acid-containing monoglycerides and/or a fatty acid component.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to novel fluorinated macrocyclic compounds and methods of treating a hepatitis C infection in a subject in need of such therapy with said macrocyclic compounds. The present invention further relates to pharmaceutical compositions comprising the compounds of the present invention, or pharmaceutically acceptable salts, esters, or prodrugs thereof, in combination with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier or excipient.
