Abstract: A computer system has a storage system including a first port and a second port, and a relay apparatus which couples the first port to an initiator apparatus. The storage apparatus stores relay apparatus information indicating a relay apparatus, and initiator information indicating an initiator apparatus. The storage apparatus establishes communications between the first port and a first relay apparatus, and based on communications with the relay apparatus recognizes the initiator apparatus with which the first relay apparatus has established communications. The storage apparatus also stores, in pathway information, a first pathway containing the first port, the first relay apparatus and the initiator apparatus. The storage apparatus creates a virtual port, which is a virtual port to which the first port is allocated, and when an initiator apparatus establishes communications with the virtual port, this apparatus adds a first virtual port associated pathway, in which the virtual port is associated with the first pathway, to the pathway information.

Abstract: According to the embodiments, an external storage device switches to an interface controller for supporting only a read operation of nonvolatile memory when a shift condition for shifting to a read only mode is met. A host device switches to an interface driver for supporting only the read operation of the nonvolatile memory when determining to recognize as read only memory based on information acquired from the external storage device.

Abstract: A method for execution by a dispersed storage and task (DST) processing unit includes generating a plurality of encoded slices of a data object by performing an encoding function on the data object. Slice stream data is generated that includes a plurality of mutually exclusive slice subsets of the plurality of encoded slices, where each of the plurality of slice subsets is assigned to a corresponding one of a plurality of storage units, and where the encoded slices of each slice subset correspond to contiguous segments of the data object. A plurality of write requests that include the plurality of encoded slices are generated, each for transmission to the corresponding one of the plurality of storage units indicated by the slice stream data via a network.

Abstract: This invention is a software application utilizing distributed storage systems to provide backup, archive and disaster recovery (BCADR) functionality across multiple clouds. The multi-cloud aware BCADR application and distributed storage systems are utilized together to prevent data lost and to provide high availability in disastrous incidents. Data deduplication reduces the storage required to store many backups. Reference counting is utilized to assist in garbage collection of staled data chunks after removal of staled backups.

Abstract: A method includes a plurality of voltage regulators distributing power to a plurality of components within a compute node, wherein each of the voltage regulators has a controller, volatile memory and non-volatile memory. The controller of each voltage regulator temporarily caches operating data for the voltage regulator in the volatile memory of the voltage regulator, wherein the controller temporarily caches the operating data collected from the voltage regulator over a sliding time period. When a first voltage regulator from among the plurality of voltage regulators experiences a fault event, the controller of each voltage regulator detects the fault event and automatically copies the cached operating data for the voltage regulator from the volatile memory of the voltage regulator to the non-volatile memory of the voltage regulator in response to detecting the fault event.

Abstract: A streams manager intelligently restores multiple consistent regions of streaming applications in a streaming environment to increase performance and reduce overloading of other operators and resources. The streams manager detects a failure that affects multiple consistent regions and determines a preferred schedule to restore the multiple consistent regions by analyzing the relationships of the operators and resources associated with the multiple consistent regions. The streams manager may create a dependency graph that maps the interrelationships of the operators and resources associated with the consistent regions of the streaming application and then consult the dependency graph to determine the schedule to restore the multiple consistent regions affected by the failure.

Abstract: A fleet rebuild service examines hosts in a fleet to determine whether any of the hosts in the fleet are to be rebuilt. If a host is to be rebuilt, the fleet rebuild service moves the host to a vetting pool. The fleet rebuild service, or another service, may cause automated testing to be performed on the hardware and/or software of hosts in the vetting pool. If a host passes the automated testing, the fleet rebuild service may move the host from the vetting pool to a provisioning pool. If a host does not pass the automated testing, the host may be moved from the vetting pool to a diagnostics pool for further testing. The fleet rebuild service may select hosts from the provisioning pool for automated configuration and deployment to the fleet.

Abstract: Techniques for managing crash in a host computing system in a cluster are disclosed. In one embodiment, a core dump partition may be configured in memory associated with a remote access controller (RAC) within the host computing system. When the host computing system is crashed, a screen shot associated with the host computing system is obtained through the RAC. Further, a first occurrence of crash in the host computing system is determined based on the obtained screen shot. Furthermore, the core dump file associated with the first occurrence of crash is copied from the core dump partition to a shared datastore. Also, the host computing system is reset through the RAC upon copying the core dump file to the shared datastore.
