A process for reducing content of sulphur compounds and polyaromatic hydrocarbons in a hydrocarbon feed having a boiling range between 200° C. and 600° C. is disclosed. The process comprises in combination contacting the feed and hydrogen over a hydrotreating catalyst and hydrotreating feed at hydrotreating conditions, cooling the hydrotreated effluent and hydrogen-rich gas from the hydrotreating reactor and contacting the effluent and hydrogen gas over a hydrotreating catalyst in a post-pretreatment reactor at a temperature sufficient to lower the polyaromatic hydrocarbon content.
Abstract:
The invention provides distillate fuel blend components with improved seal swell and lubricity properties obtained from Fischer Tropsch products. The blends contain a highly paraffinic distillate fuel component and distillate-boiling alkylcycloparaffins and/or distillate-boiling alkylaromatics. The invention further provides processes for obtaining such blends using the products of Fischer Tropsch processes. Finally, the invention provides methods for improving seal swell and lubricity properties for distillate fuels.

A diesel fuel composition containing metallic additives that are stabilised against phase separation. The diesel fuel contains a colloidally dispersed or solubilised metal catalyst compound, which can be used for diesel particulate trap regeneration and, as a stabiliser, 5-1,000 ppm (weight) of an oil-soluble or oil-dispersible organic compound having a lipophilic hydrocarbyl chain having attached directly thereto at least two contiguous polar head functional groups, i.e., the functional groups are separated by no more than three carbon atoms. The diesel fuel composition is particularly suitable for use with diesel engines fitted with a particulate trap for emissions control.

A process for producing distillate fuels, such as diesel fuels and jet fuels having both high lubricity and low sulfur levels. Such fuels are produced by fractionating a distillate feedstream into a light fraction which is relatively low in lubricity and which contains from about 50 to 100 wppm of sulfur and a heavy fraction having a relatively high lubricity. The first fraction is hydrotreated to remove substantially all of the sulfur and is then blended with the second fraction to produce a distillate fuel product having relatively low sulfur levels and a relatively high lubricity.

This invention is a composition of matter useful as a compression-ignition fuel. The composition has from about 30 to about 95 mass % of a light synthetic crude or syncrude, preferably from Fischer-Tropsch synthesis or related processes, and from about 5 to about 70 mass % of a blending stock that improves one or more desirable fuel property(s) including but not limited to pour point temperature, viscosity and emissions generated during combustion in a diesel engine. The blend stock preferably has an average molecular weight less than the average molecular weight of the light syncrude. Preferred blending stocks include hydrocarbons and oxygenates, such as alcohols, and ethers, having average molecular weights less than 200, preferably less than 160. The composition may optionally also contain pour point depressants, cetane improvers, carbon-containing compounds which react with water, and/or emulsifiers.

This invention relates to a diesel fuel composition containing an additive composition made by admixing at least two components: A) at least one dicarboxylic acid having about 8 to about 500 carbon atoms or a reactive equivalent thereof; and B) at least one amine having about 6 to about 80 carbon atoms. In one embodiment, the additive composition also contains: C) at least one monocarboxylic acid of about 8 to about 28 carbon atoms or a reactive equivalent thereof. The additive composition is useful as a lubricity additive for diesel fuel, especially low sulfur diesel fuel and provide excellent storage stability, rust-inhibiting and anti-wear performance to diesel fuel.

An energy fortified diesel fuel is provided containing a hydrocarbon additive wherein greater than 50% vaporizes at or above about 650.degree. F. and diesel fuel of which about 90% of the diesel fuel vaporizes at or below about 640.degree. F. or about 95% of the diesel fuel vaporizes at or below about 698.degree. F. This energy fortified diesel fuel is made by distilling a heavy hydrocarbon fraction such as slurry oil or heavy cycle oil obtained from an FCC unit or a heavy hydrocarbon fraction obtained from a steam cracker unit at a temperature of between about 500 and 750.degree. F. and at a pressure of between about 1 mm Hg and 10 psig to remove contaminants, removing distillate from this distillation, and mixing the distillate with diesel fuel, wherein about 90% of the diesel fuel vaporizes at or below about 640.degree. F. or about 95% of the diesel fuel vaporizes at or below about 698.degree. F., to form an energy fortified diesel fuel. This energy fortified diesel fuel is a desirable fuel for off highway heavy duty and "very" heavy duty compression ignition engines.

The present invention relates to environmentally friendly diesel fuel, containing natural, liquid triglycerides of natural or animal origin, such as rapeseed or soybean oil, and acetals of the formula (I) or (II) ##STR1## in which the substitutents have the meaning defined in the description. This diesel fuel is biodegradable and free of sulfur, nitrogen and aromatics.
