Abstract: A remotely controlled and monitored spa. An interface signal converter is electrically connected to a spa controller. The interface signal converter has an interface means for communicating with a remote computer through a communications link. The signal converter converts communications signals transferred from the remote computer via the communications link and directs the converted signals to the spa controller. Also, the signal converter converts signals from the spa controller to be communicated to the remote computer via the communications link. In a preferred embodiment, the signal converter comprises an IR transceiver. In another preferred embodiment the signal converter also has an RS-485 transceiver. Also, in a preferred embodiment, the interface signal converter is contained within an interface module that is mounted onto the outside of the spa's skirt. The interface module preferably contains a plurality of multicolored LED's for illuminating the area outside the spa and an error status LED and a maintenance status LED. Preferably, a plurality of slave modules each having a plurality of multicolored LED's is electrically connected to the interface module and controlled by the interface module.

Abstract: An interactive vibrator system provides stimulus to a computer user in response to interaction between computer and user. A signal pick-off device (16) gathers signals present at the computer input/output port (11) and delivers such signals to signal processing device (14) which in turn drives vibrator (21) to provide soothing vibration to the user's body. An interactive vibrator in conjunction with a multimedia computer detects pulses or the like from joystick or other input devices. Corresponding driving of one or more vibrators in response to the detected input device X, Y, Z movement commands or in response to detected audio output from the computer produces tactile feedback to a user of a multimedia game or the like. The vibrations can thereby simulate "G" forces or the like. The joystick, steering wheel or other such input devices are also suitably provided with vibrators therein to generate tactile feedback in response to operation thereof or in response to the audio signals.

Abstract: A spinal diagnostics/therapy device that is computer controlled such that all motions thereof can be automated if desired. Individual and joint motions of body support portions are generated by computer controlled actuators which derive operating signals from a CPU. Memory units within the CPU and/or inserted for a particular patient control the program of the diagnostics or therapy of a patient. As a result, no physical adjustment of support elements need to be made by a person supervising the diagnostic or therapy session. During an initial session, a patient can help by inputting information as to the limits of motion that can be tolerated. For repeat sessions, the machine can be pre-programmed to give specific exercises to the spine of the patient. The actuators are provided with position sensors to produce feedback signals related to axial movement to the CPU. The actuator units are selected from electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic devices.

Abstract: There is presented a system and method for providing real-time object recognition to a remote user. The system comprises a portable communication device including a camera, at least one client-server host device remote from and accessible by the portable communication device over a network, and a recognition database accessible by the client-server host device or devices. A recognition application residing on the client-server host device or devices is capable of utilizing the recognition database to provide real-time object recognition of visual imagery captured using the portable communication device to the remote user of the portable communication device. In one embodiment, a sighted assistant shares an augmented reality panorama with a visually impaired user of the portable communication device where the panorama is constructed from sensor data from the device.

Abstract: Disclosed are a joint manipulation device and system for increasing the range of motion of a joint of a user, and monitoring the compliance of the user's operation of the joint manipulation device to standards or guidelines set by a monitoring entity. Certain sensors associated with the joint manipulation device may cause an indicator to transmit an alert to the user based on whether or not the device is sufficiently engaged with a limb or joint of the user to be considered in compliance. Additionally, progress data associated with the range of motion of the user's joint may be obtained by a sensor assembly and transmitted to one or more systems associated with the device system. Progress data obtained during a period of non-compliant use of the device may be excluded from the transmitted data, thereby generating a set of compliant progress data for accurate analysis of device effectiveness.
