Abstract:
A diesel fuel additive composition, a fuel containing the fuel additive, a method for improving diesel engine performance using the additive. The diesel fuel additive includes a reaction product of (a) a hydrocarbyl-substituted acylating agent and (b) a reactant selected from the group consisting of a nitrogen-containing compound, a hydroxyl-containing compound, and water that provides a reaction product selected from the group consisting (1) a mono-amide/mono-acid or metal free mono-acid salt thereof, (2) a diacid or metal free diacid salt thereof, and (3) mono-ester/mono-acid or metal free mono-acid salt thereof. The reaction product includes at least about 10 molar percent acid groups based on total moles of the reaction product.

Abstract:
The present invention relates to functional fluid compositions containing friction modifiers, and specifically stable compositions containing friction modifiers with limited solubility in and/or limited compatibility with the functional fluids with which they are used. In particular the present invention deals with functional fluids used in internal combustion engines, such as engine oils, and phosphorus-containing friction modifiers, where the friction modifier is present in the functional fluid composition at levels that would otherwise cause the composition to be unstable and/or hazy.
Abstract:
A method for cleaning internal components of a fuel injector for a diesel engine. The method includes operating a fuel injected diesel engine on a fuel composition comprising a major amount of fuel and from about 10 to about 100 ppm by weight based on the total weight of the fuel composition of (A) a compound of the formula: and tautomers and enantiomers thereof, wherein R2 is a hydrocarbyl group having a number average molecular weight ranging from 100 to 5000.
Abstract:
A method of coloring a substrate is disclosed that includes the steps of dissolving a vegetable oil ester based solvent wherein the ester is selected from a group consisting of esters having carbon chain length of C-1 to C-18 in a liquid solvent dye to form a low-sulfur containing dye formulation such that the vegetable oil ester is present in an amount of between about 5 and 80 percent by weight of the dye formulation, and mixing sufficient amounts of the dye formulation with the substrate to produce mixtures of predetermined color in which the levels of toxic substrate are substantially less than in otherwise equivalent mixtures that include hydrocarbon-based solvents.
Abstract:
The use of imidazolium salts (I) where R1 and R3 are each independently an organic radical having 1 to 3000 carbon atoms, R2, R4 and R5 are each independently hydrogen or an organic radical having 1 to 3000 carbon atoms, X is an anion and n is the number 1, 2 or 3 as additives for fuels, especially as detergent additives for diesel fuels, as wax antisettling additives for middle distillate fuels and as lubricity improvers, and for improving the use properties of mineral and synthetic nonaqueous industrial fluids.
Abstract:
A fuel additive composition, fuel comprising said additive, and methods of use thereof are provided. The fuel additive composition comprises a synergistic combination of a hydrocarbyl-substituted succinimide dispersant and a compound of the following formula: and tautomers and enantiomers thereof, wherein R3 is a hydrocarbyl group having a number average molecular weight ranging from about 100 to about 5000, and wherein the weight ratio of (a) to (b) ranges from about 5:1 to about 1:5. The fuel additive composition is present in fuel in an amount sufficient to improve the conductivity properties of the fuel.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to the use of amines and/or Mannich adducts as detergents and/or dispersants in fuel and lubricant compositions for direct-injection gasoline engines. The invention further relates to fuel and lubricant compositions which comprise at least one such Mannich adduct, and also a bisaminoalkylated Mannich adduct.
Abstract:
An environment friendly writing instrument that includes a hollow body, an ink reservoir at the first end of the hollow body to hold ink, and a felt tip which extends from the reservoir to the second end of the hollow body, and a dye formulation comprising (I) a vegetable oil ester in an amount of between about 5 and 80 percent by weight of the dye formulation, (ii) a liquid solvent dye present in the dye formulation in an amount sufficient to impart a predetermined color to the dye formulation and (iii) sulfur in an amount of less than about 10 ppm, and wherein the ink is formed from the dye formulation.
