Abstract:
The invention can enable monitoring of the display of content by a computer system. Moreover, the invention can enable monitoring of the displayed content to produce monitoring information from which conclusions may be deduced regarding the observation of the displayed content by an observer. The invention can also enable monitoring of the display at a content display site of content that is provided by a content provider site over a network to the content display site. Additionally, the invention can enable the expeditious provision of updated and/or tailored content over a network from a content provider site to a content display site so that the content provider's current and appropriately tailored content is always displayed at the content display site. Aspects of the invention related to transfer of content over a network are generally applicable to any type of network. However, it is contemplated that the invention can be particularly useful with a computer network, including private computer networks (e.g., America Online™) and public computer networks (e.g., the Internet). In particular, the invention can be advantageously used with computer networks or portions of computer networks over which video and/or audio content are transferred from one network site to another network site for observation, such as the World Wide Web portion of the Internet.
Abstract:
A system and method to monitor application servers using shared monitoring memory. An application server includes worker nodes having Java virtual machines to process work requests received by the application server. Status information is generated for each of the worker nodes while processing the work requests. The status information for each of the worker nodes is then stored into the shared monitoring memory while the worker nodes operate.
Abstract:
This disclosure provides various implementations for supporting multiple system and application tracing. In one aspect, software can generate a globally unique identifier (GUID) for a first business process associated with a trace and transmit the GUID to a remote computer for association with a second business process related to the first business process. In another aspect, the software can identify a GUID for a trace that is executing for a first business process that is associated with a first application. The software can then associate the GUID with a second trace for a second business process related to the first business process, where the second business process is associated with a second heterogeneous application disparate from the first application. In some instances, the GUID may comprise a combination of a system identifier, a business process identifier, and a time identifier.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for recording web application processes which enable the overall processing condition of a web system to be checked simply without installing a special tool in a client computer and without taking the trouble of modifying a web application on a server, while coping with an increase in the number of client computers in a scalable manner. When sending a response (web page) to the client computer, a script code for recording processes on the client computer and an ID associated with the log of the web page generating process as saved in the server computer are inserted into the response and the process log is saved in a secure area of the client computer's local disk. Process logs thus saved in the local disk are listed in a web page including a script code for accessing them successively.
Abstract:
In one embodiment, a method for monitoring performance of one or more methods and one or more database calls each associated with at least one method, includes correlating a database call generated by a method with the method that generated the database call. The method also includes monitoring one or more parameters associated with the database call and displaying to a client a first identifier of the database call, a second identifier of the method that generated the data base call, and one or more of the one or more parameters associated with the database call.
Abstract:
A monitoring program contains a method for detecting a load imbalance in a group of servers and providing notification so that corrections can be made. An embodiment of the invention reads from the address resolution protocol (ARP) cache to determine which server addresses are present, then clears the ARP cache. The address resolution protocol will repopulate the cache from traffic it snoops and from new requests. By performing this query and clear operation periodically, the tracking program can form a picture of the activity levels of the servers. When a significant imbalance exists, the program notifies a control console for human intervention to solve the problem. The tracking program will periodically write its results to a log file, allowing reports for various time periods to be produced as needed. By this mechanism, not only can an imbalance be quickly detected, but underutilization can be picked up by comparing known capability of a resource to its actual usage.
Abstract:
System, method and program product for backing up a plurality of data files from a first server to a second server via a network. A determination is made that more than one compressed data file at the second server, downloaded by the first server, is waiting to be decompressed. A determination is made whether an amount of available processor resource in the second server exceeds a predetermined threshold. If the amount of available processor resource in the second server exceeds the predetermined threshold, a plurality of data decompression programs are invoked in the second server to decompress the plurality of compressed data files substantially concurrently, and data updates in the decompressed data files are applied to corresponding files in the second server.
Abstract:
Computer services and other computer entities may be monitored and evaluated by using a model that defines the services and relationships between the services. The model may be used during discovery for finding entities and creating instances of the entities and instances of the relationships between entities. After discovery, data may be collected and stored in a database by monitoring or instrumenting the entity. Analysis of the data may include tracking performance and monitoring the health of a service or other entity. The relationships may be used to graphically display various entities in many useful manners, including graphical representations of the health of various entities.
Abstract:
A metod of performing a service which remotely monitors a Web site includes the steps of monitoring the site for an error and notifying a site representative in the event an error is detected on the site. Advance permission is not obtained prior to sending the notification and a fee is not charged for the service. The appropriate e-mail address to which the notification is sent is identified based on one or more categories and a priority assigned to all e-mail addresses identified on the monitored site. The notification may be sent, alternatively, to the representative of a site linked to the site monitored or to some other interested third party. Subscribers to the monitoring service may be enrolled automatically upon submission of their site to a search engine service or to a domain name registry. The list of service recipients generated by the monitoring service is usable for other commercial purposes.
