Abstract:
An active element sharp cut-off bandpass filter circuit having independently tunable center frequency and Q characteristics. The filter circuit incorporates a high performance operational amplifier having one input connected to ground and a pair of feedback paths interconnecting the amplifier output and the other input. One feedback path includes two capacitors connected in series and the other path includes two resistors connected in series. The input to the filter circuit is connected, via an input resistor, to the common juncture of the capacitors; and the amplifier output is connected to the filter output terminal, as well as to one end of a grounded voltage divider having a movable tap. The common juncture of the feedback resistors is connected, via a capacitor, to the movable tap of the voltage divider. In one embodiment the capacitors have equal values and the feedback resistors have values which are four times the value of the input resistor.

SHEEP OR HORSE BLOOD IS SPECIALLY TREATED TO PRODUCE AN ANTIGEN WHICH IS READILY AGGLUTINABLE BY HETEROPHIL TYPE ANTIBODIES PRESENT IN THE PATIENTS SCRUM. THE ANTIGEN POSSESSES PROPERTIES OF STABILITY, SENSITIVITY AND AGGLUTINABILITY WHICH ARE UTILIZED IN A SEROLOGICAL DIAGNOSTIC TEST FOR INFECTIOUS MONONUCLEOSIS. TWO OTHER ANTIGENS, PREPARED FROM BEEF BLOOD AND FROM GUINEA PIG TISSUES, ARE USED IN THE TEST TO DIFFERENTIATE THE INFECTIOUS MONONUCLEOSIS TYPE ANTIBODY FROM THE FORSSMAN TYPE.

A narrow band-pass ultraviolet filter for continuous determination of protein consisting essentially of a first component (e.g., a concentrated solution of nickel sulfate and cobalt sulfate or red-purple ''''Corex'''' A glass) for absorbing substantially, or otherwise eliminating from consideration, all incident light in the visible region of the spectrum and a part of the light in the ultraviolet region of the spectrum, a second component (e.g., a concentrated solution of a heavy metal salt plus an acid addition salt of 2,7-dimethyl-3,6-diazacyclo-1,6heptadiene) which is a filter component for absorbing a substantial part of the light in the near ultraviolet region of the spectrum, and a separate third component for absorbing light of wavelengths below 260 millimicrons and a greater part of the light above 340 millimicrons, the separate third component consisting essentially of a complex compound of one or more metals (viz., Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu or rare earth) and one or more chelating agents selected from the group consisting of ethylene-diaminotetra-acetic acid, iminodiacetic acid, nitrilotriacetic acid, diamines, and condensation products of diamines and carbonyl compounds. Components in solution form are enclosed in cells, the walls of which are transparent to ultraviolet light.

A REMOVABLE FILTER TUBE PROVIDES A FILTERED SAMPLE SOLUTION FOR FURTHER WET ANALYSIS. THE REACTOR MODULE COMPRISING THE SOLUTION CUP AND THE REMOVABLE FILTER TUBE IS MADE OF A THIN WALL THERMOPLASTIC MATERIAL, SUITABLE FOR USING ONE OR MORE TIMES.
Abstract:
An apparatus for batch analysis of liquid samples wherein syringes are employed for delivering repeatable volumes of reagent to a cell prior to the addition of a sample and for withdrawing liquid from the cell after analysis thereof. Sensing means, such as a polarographic oxygen sensor, is mounted in the side wall of the cell with it sensing end contacting the liquid therein. A stirring element is positioned within the cell and rotated about the vertical axis of the cell so that a high tangential stirring force is produced to promote mixing of sample with reagent and to optimize sensor performance, yet only small sample volumes are required. The apparatus is particularly suited for rate sensing batch analysis of biological fluids such as blood or urine.
Abstract:
A rate analysis instrumentation system including a sample cell and detector for producing an electrical cell signal proportional to a parameter of a sample reacting within the cell. In a preferred embodiment the enzyme activity of a sample is measured by detecting the light absorbance characteristics of the sample. A differentiator is utilized to obtain a rate signal from the light absorbance characteristic, and the rate signal is displayed. A constant rate detection circuit is used to measure the rate signal only during periods when the reaction rate and the cell signal are linear. The constant rate detection circuit differentiates the rate signal whereby a second derivative of the cell signal is provided. The second derivative signal is compared in a comparator to a threshold value to determine when the second derivative signal approaches zero. An overrange protection circuit is provided for excluding false rate signals, such as signals having characteristics that fail to meet predetermined acceptable limits.

A carrier and terminal connector for a nonconductive circuit module in the form of a thin wafer having oppositely disposed flat surfaces and an electrical cicuit network deposited on at least one surface thereof including terminal pads positioned along at least one edge thereof. The carrier, terminal connector and non-conductive circuit module are used in a multi-sectional rotary wafer switch assembly. A conductive rotor engages printed circuit terminal paths disposed on the face of the circuit module.

The elastomeric filling can comprise any suitable elastomer such as RTV silicone or urethane based rubber.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for determining the concentration of a component in a sample, i.e. the concentration of urea in biological fluids, such as blood serum, wherein the sample, upon being introduced into solution with a reagent, reacts therewith, causing a continuing change in a characteristic of the solution, and wherein the rate of the reaction is indicative of the concentration of the component in the sample. A sensor is provided for monitoring the characteristic of the solution and for generating a first electrical output signal proportional thereto. Differentiator circuit means are provided for producing a second electrical signal proportional to the time derivative of the first signal, the time derivative signal being indicative of the concentration of the component in the sample.
