Abstract: System and methods mount an accessory to an engine block having a pilot bore aligned with a first plane and sealing surfaces aligned to a second plane different than the first plane. The accessory includes a sliding pilot for interfacing with the pilot bore that is capable of sliding in an “x” direction yet fixed in a “y” direction with respect to the accessory housing. Interfacing the sliding pilot in a mounting position with the pilot bore along a “z” direction locates the accessory with respect to the engine block in the “y” and “z” directions. Fastening the accessory to the sealing surfaces of the engine block locates the accessory in the “x” direction with sufficient precision to mitigate gear backlashing and providing one or more fluid seals between the accessory and the engine block.

Abstract: A system for diagnosing engine braking performance of an engine comprising a plurality of cylinders comprises an exhaust manifold pressure sensor configured to detect an exhaust manifold pressure corresponding to exhaust gas emitted from a plurality of cylinders. A controller is configured to determine an exhaust manifold pressure value corresponding to at least one cylinder of the plurality of cylinders that is being used for engine braking, from an exhaust manifold pressure sensor signal received from the exhaust manifold pressure sensor. The controller is also configured to determine an engine braking value based on the exhaust manifold pressure value.

Abstract: Valve trains employing a splined interface between phaser(s) and a concentric camshaft, actuator at rear of camshaft actuated by an actuation rod, adding a clearance hole to the lobe pin for clearance to the actuation rod, supplying oil to camshaft bearings via the concentric camshaft inner tube, and bolt on front camshaft bearing. The valve trains may further employ a third rocker lever that is usable for a selectable valve event (e.g. compression release brake) while also implementing variable valve timing and a concentric camshaft.

Abstract: A variable valve actuation system in one form includes a rocker coupled with a valve stem at one end and a cam follower at the other end. The rocker is operable to rotate about a fixed axis and the cam follower includes a set of lower rollers operable to follow one cam lobe and an upper roller operable to follow another cam lobe. A leaf spring can be used to couple the cam follower with the rocker. A cam shaft can have a nested configuration that includes an inner shaft, an intermediate tube, and an outer tube. Cam lobes can be fastened to the cam shaft by fastening through each of the inner shaft, intermediate tube, and outer tube. The cam lobes can be attached by at least two devices inserted from either side of the cam shaft and that are not inserted at least through the inner shaft.
