Abstract:
A pneumatic tire comprises a cord-reinforced layer such as carcass, belt, bead reinforcing layer which is made of metallic cords, each metallic cord is made up of six to twelve metallic filaments whose diameter is in a range of from 0.15 to 0.45 mm, the metallic filaments include waved filaments and unwaved filaments, each waved filament is two-dimensionally waved at a wave pitch and wave height before twisted, the wave pitch is in a range of from 5.0 to 35.0 times the diameter of the filament, and the wave height is in a range of from 0.2 to 4.0 times the diameter of the filament, and the metallic filaments are twisted together into the cord at a twist pitch of from 10 to 40 mm so that the two-dimensionally waved filaments are each subjected to a certain rotation around its axial.

Further, the present invention provides a racket string composed of polytrimethylene terephthalate multifilamentary fibers having a single-fiber size in a range from 1 to 56 dtex, which are collected together to have a total size in a range from 7000 to 22000 dtex, and a musical instrumental string composed of polytrimethylene terephthalate multifilamentary fibers having a single-fiber size in a range from 1 to 56 dtex, which are collected together to have a total size in a range from 2000 to 14000 dtex. The yarn according to the present invention is high in strength, elastic recovery and stress-retaining ratio as well as excellent in water resistance, softness and homogeneity of yarn properties. The racket string according to the present invention can be set across a racket frame, for example, for tennis or other, games under a high tension, whereby high resilience is obtainable when the string is set, and maintained for a long time. Also, this racket string is excellent in impact resistance, durability and water resistant. The musical instrumental string is stable in tuning over time and with a change in humidity as well as excellent in tunability.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein are a tire-reinforcing steel cord and a pneumatic radial tire using the same. The tire-reinforcing steel cord includes an inner layer consisting of 3 filaments and an outer layer consisting of 7 or 8 filaments and surrounding the inner layer. The inner layer and the outer layer are twisted in such a manner that they have the same twist direction and the same twist pitch length, whereby the number of the twisting steps in the manufacture of the steel cord is reduced, and also the penetration of rubber into the steel cord is improved such that the steel cord has an improved durability upon application to tires.
Abstract:
A cord comprising at least a first pair and a second pair of wires (2a, 2b) of different diameter randomly disposed in transverse cross section thereof, is obtained by arranging in a nacelle (7) of a double-twisting laying machine, a twister (16) operating upstream of a preformer (15). The twister (16), rotating in a direction opposite to that of the impeller (5) and at a speed which is twice that of the impeller, neutralizes the internal torsional stresses induced in the wires (2a, 2b) by effect of the double twisting carried out upon the action of the impeller itself. Thus, a better control of the preforming operation executed on the wires (2a, 2b) disposed parallel in respectively coplanar axes is enabled. The obtained cord (1), within each laying pitch and only under a traction condition involving a load not exceeding 5 kg, has at least one right cross section in which at least one wire (2a, 2b) is spaced apart from at least one of the adjacent wires so as to facilitate the rubberizing step, by enabling access of the blend to the cross section and penetration thereof along the cord axis. The cord is preferably used as a reinforcing element for the belt structure.
Abstract:
A steel cord for radial tires having a “2+5” construction structured by twisting a core and a strand in such a fashion that they have the same twist pitch length and the same twist direction, so that the number of processing steps for the twisting process is reduced from two to one, thereby reducing the manufacturing costs while achieving an improvement in productivity.
Abstract:
A metallic cord for the reinforcement of elastomers has a 4+3 construction wherein the diameter of each filament ranges from 0.35 to 0.50 mm. The lay length of the four filaments in the core may be infinity. A pneumatic tire has a belt structure of at least two radially overlapped layers of elastomeric materials reinforced with metallic cords, each metallic cord of at least one of the layers being the 4+3 metallic cord.
Abstract:
A high elongation compact helical steel cord with a high degree of elongation at break of not less than 5% has a (1.times.n) structure comprising three or more base wires which are helically preformed at a predetermined pitch and which are twisted in the same direction and at the same pitch so that the ratio P/D of the cord diameter D to the twisting pitch P is in the range of 8-15 with the base wire preforming pitch being shorter than the cord twisting pitch. The finished cord has a helical composite structure with its elongation under a load of 35 kgf/mm.sup.2 being 0.71%-1.00% and that under a load of 70 kgf/mm.sup.2 being 1.18%-1.57%. A radial tire is reinforced with the steel cord preferably as a steel belt cord. An apparatus for making the steel cord is provided with revolving preformers on the wire introducing portion of a bunching machine such that the bunching machine is rotated in a direction reverse to the rotational direction of the revolving preformers.
Abstract:
A plurality of strands (7) of sectorial cross-section is stranded around a central core such as an optical fiber conductor. First, a rigid type stranding machine is used to impart a spiral twist to each strand (7). Then, the twisted strand (7) is heat-treated or otherwise treated to remove any stress caused by the twisting. These strands are then fed to a planetary type stranding machine which provides a planetary motion in which the strands perform an orbital rotation around the optical fiber core of an optical conductor or conductors without rotation about its own axis, whereby the strands are stranded together on the optical fiber core.
