Abstract:
With a wire rope comprising at least one plastic core (11) and a number of wire strands (15) twisted around the latter a helical groove (20) is respectively produced by machining around the periphery of the plastic core (11) for each wire strand (15). The cross section of these helical grooves (20) is respectively matched to the outside diameter of the wire strands (15). The plastic core (11) is provided with the helical grooves (20) for receiving the wire strands (15) by this machining directly before the wire strands (15) are wound onto said core. By thus forming the wire rope by means of this machining in order to produce helical grooves of the plastic core, optimal guiding of the wire strands in the twisted state is achieved, and so overall there are improvements to the properties of the wire rope.
Abstract:
An elevator system includes a car or platform to transport passengers and/or goods as well as a counterweight, which are arranged as traversable or movable along a travel path, and which are coupled and/or with a drive by a suspension element interrelating their motion. The suspension element is guided and/or driven by a traction sheave and/or a drive shaft and/or a deflecting pulley. The suspension element is a sheathed and/or belt-type, with a first layer made of a first plasticizable and/or elastomeric material and a second layer with a connection plane formed between the first and second layers. At least one tension member—rope-type, tissue-type, or comprising a multitude of partial elements—is embedded in an area of the connection plane, a majority of a surface of said at least one tension member directly contacting said first layer. A manufacturing procedure for one of the suspension elements is provided.
Abstract:
An adjustable quill has a tubular housing, in both ends of which semicircular disks are adjustably mounted. The relative positions of the edges of the said disks serve to define opposite ends of a spiral preforming path for a wire strand being drawn through the tubular housing. The spiral preforming path within the housing between the adjustable end disks follows the outer circumference of a cylindrical structure extending between the two end disks and comprised, in a preferred embodiment for some purposes, of a series of rotatable disks, or, alternatively, for other purposes, of an extended rod or tubular member. In some embodiments the tubular housing for the adjustable quill may be omitted if a specially designed quill head is used to mount the quills. A quill head for adjustably mounting the adjustable quills is also disclosed to be formed from a series of circular plates mounted upon a shaft. The plates have apertures into which the adjustable quills are mounted. A chain and sprocket arrangement may provide uniform adjustment between the adjustable end disks of a series of adjustable quills mounted in the plates of the quill head.
Abstract:
A load bearing member (22) useful in an elevator system (10) includes at least one elongated tension member (36), a conversion coating (46) on the elongated tension member (36), and a polymer jacket (34) at least partially surrounding the coated elongated tension member (36). In one example, the conversion coating (46) includes at least one of an oxide, a phosphate, or a chromate.

Abstract:
A plurality of strands (7) of sectorial cross-section is stranded around a central core such as an optical fiber conductor. First, a rigid type stranding machine is used to impart a spiral twist to each strand (7). Then, the twisted strand (7) is heat-treated or otherwise treated to remove any stress caused by the twisting. These strands are then fed to a planetary type stranding machine which provides a planetary motion in which the strands perform an orbital rotation around the optical fiber core of an optical conductor or conductors without rotation about its own axis, whereby the strands are stranded together on the optical fiber core.
