Abstract:
A detection device includes: a light source that emits, toward an object, light of a first wavelength band, and light of a second wavelength band that is less readily absorbed by water than the light of the first wavelength band; a polarization splitter that splits at least one of S-polarized light and P-polarized light from light that has been reflected or scattered at the object; a photoreceptor that receives light reflected or scattered at the object via the polarization splitter; and a control unit that determines a state of the object from information based on light received by the photoreceptor. The light emitted by the light source is random polarized light where the ratio of P-polarized light and S-polarized light is generally uniform.
Abstract:
Apparatus and systems, preferably using UV spectroscopy, for the dynamic and continuous detection and quantification of a range of chemicals, particularly pollutants, in the environment, and to the production of a real-time display or map to display chemical levels in the environment are provided. By providing data packets which combine details of pollutants in the atmosphere with very accurate position and temporal information, and real-time map of pollution is provided.
Abstract:
The tunnel lining surface inspection system capable of measuring the three dimensional shape of the surface of the tunnel lining surface to precisely determine whether cracking has a risk of leading to flaking, by the light section method using the photography means and the slit laser beam projecting means, mounted in the vehicle, while the vehicle is traveling in the tunnel, and the vehicle used in the system are proposed. Image processing is performed to obtain the image used for inspecting the tunnel lining surface, by using the result of the three dimensional shape measurement of one side face of the tunnel lining surface, measured while the photography means/slit laser beam projecting means arrangement means is fixed to the first measurement position, and the result of the three dimensional shape measurement of the other side face of the tunnel lining surface, measured while the photography means/slit laser beam projecting means arrangement means is fixed to the second measurement position.
Abstract:
A vehicle-carried quick inspection system includes an X-ray source, a detector, the X-ray source and the detector being arranged to form an inspection passage, a controller configured to control the X-ray source so that X-ray irradiation dose is extremely low when the driver's cab of the inspected vehicle passes through an X-ray beam, and control the X-ray source so that the irradiation dose of the X-ray source becomes a working dose when the other subsequent portions of the inspected vehicle pass through the X-ray beam. A mobile and fully automated security inspection system is obtained and quick inspection can be achieved, while protecting the driver from being damaged from X-ray irradiation.
Abstract:
A method and a device for outputting a signal when there is a hazardous surface under a vehicle includes providing an optical surface sensor for determining one or more parameters of the underlying surface, a stationary-state-determining device for determining whether the vehicle is stationary or is to be brought to a standstill, and an output device that outputs a signal if the underlying surface has been determined to be hazardous on the basis of the parameter(s), and the vehicle is stationary or is to be brought to a standstill.
Abstract:
A high-resolution in situ sensing system and method for providing continuous measurements of at least one dissolved analyte including a sample processing cell having at least a first conduit defining a first passage with at least one selectively-permeable wall capable of passing a portion of the sample liquid into a processing, fluid. The at least one selectively-permeable wall substantially resists flow of another portion of the sample liquid therethrough. Processing fluid is directed through the first conduit while moving the sample liquid and the reagent fluid relative to each other in one of a stationary, concurrent or a countercurrent flow relationship to achieve either partial or full equilibration between the sample liquid and processing fluid to generate at least partially equilibrated reagent fluid and a processed sample in a substantially continuous manner.
Abstract:
An inspection system for inspecting an internal component of a machine includes a remote controlled vehicle constructed to fit inside a desired portion of the machine; a controller operative to control an operation of the remote controlled vehicle; a tether coupled to the controller and to the remote controlled vehicle, wherein the tether is operative to transmit control signals from the controller to the remote controlled vehicle; and an imaging device extending from a front portion of the remote controlled vehicle and operative to view the internal component. The imaging device has a flexible articulating tip spaced apart from the front portion of the body.
Abstract:
One embodiment provides a method for identifying a target object of a pipe wall, including: positioning a pipe inspection robot within a pipe; emitting, using a terahertz (THz) beam source of the pipe inspection robot, a laser beam towards a target object; receiving, using a THz receiver of the pipe inspection robot, THz data related to the target object; analyzing, using a processor, the THz data; and determining, based on the analyzing, an identity of the object. Other aspects are described and claimed.

Abstract:
A chassis that supports a scanning system that images core samples from a wellbore. The chassis provides a mounting base for the scanning system for transportation of the scanning system, and also while the scanning system is in use and stationary. A suspension system mounts between the chassis and wheels that facilitate transportation of the chassis. The suspension system isolates the scanning system from shock and vibration encountered by the wheels while transporting the chassis and scanning system. In an example the chassis is a trailer, and which is pulled by a tractor. Legs can telescope downward from the chassis and against the surface on which the chassis is disposed. Airbags are strategically located within the chassis that absorb the vibration and thereby isolate the scanning system from the shock and vibration. Locations of the airbags include paths of force transmission between the wheels and the trailer.
