An image processing apparatus that records image data on a detachable storage medium in a previously set recording format is provided. The apparatus sets the recording format of image data, and determines whether or not a storage medium attached to an attachment unit has a communication function that communicates with a different apparatus than the image processing apparatus. If it is determined that the storage medium has a communication function, and that the recording format of image data that can be transferred by the communication function does not match the recording format that has been set, the apparatus issues a warning.

An image reading apparatus comprises: an image reading unit that includes a platen glass and a color contact image sensor configured by a line image sensor for reading red, a line image sensor for reading green, and a line image sensor for reading blue, the line image sensors being disposed in a sub-scanning direction of an original; and an automatic original feeder. In the image reading apparatus, the line image sensor for reading red and the line image sensor for reading green are disposed so that a line gap therebetween is two lines, and in a monochrome mode in which a color original is read and output as a monochrome image, the color original is read using the line image sensor for reading red and the line image sensor for reading green.

Disclosed is a communication apparatus connected via a network to an external controller capable of providing a printing optional function and one or more image forming apparatuses. The communication apparatus may include a receiving unit configured to receive a print request and image data from the external controller, a distributed printing management unit configured to perform control to distribute the image data received by the receiving unit from the external controller to the image forming apparatuses to print the distributed image data, and a reporting unit configured to send to the external controller a report on information associated with the printing of the image forming apparatuses. In the communication apparatus, the receiving unit receives the image data generated by the external controller based on the information associated with the printing of the image forming apparatuses.

As described above, the image processing apparatus scans an original document into scanned image data, and converts the scanned image data into converted image data having a data format that is suitable for a first process requested by a first processing request. In prior to receiving a subsequent processing request that follows the first processing request, the image processing apparatus generates converted image data from the scanned image data, which has a data format other than the data format of the converted image data generated for the first process, and stores the converted image data in a storage device. After the first process is executed, the image processing apparatus obtains the converted image data having a data format that is suitable for a subsequent process requested by a subsequent processing request, from the storage device, to perform the subsequent process.

In the case of forming an image using one optical scanning device, the temperature adjuster drives motors of unused optical scanning devices at a first rotation speed if a predetermined temperature condition is satisfied and drives the motors of the unused optical scanning devices at a second rotation speed slower than the first rotation speed if image formation is finished during the drive at the first rotation speed.

A scanner includes a scanning device, a display, and a control device. The scanning device scans a document, The control device obtains at least one of specification information and status information corresponding to a connection-target device. The specification information may comprise information identifying available functions of the connection-target device. The status information may comprise information indicating a current status of the connection-target device. The control device controls the display to display a setting screen for a scanning and printing process, in which the scanning device scans an image on a document and sends image data corresponding to the image on the document to the connection-target device for printing, when the connection-target device is a printer. The control device determines available options for setting items displayed on the setting screen for the scanning and printing process, based on the obtained at least one of the specification information and the status information.
