Abstract: An X-ray generation device includes: an electron gun that emits an electron beam; a target portion in which a plurality of elongated targets that generate an X-ray because of incidence of the electron beam are disposed parallel to each other; a housing that accommodates the electron gun and the target portion; and an X-ray emission window provided in the housing to emit the X-ray generated in the target portion, to an outside of the housing. The targets are disposed on the target portion to face the electron gun at a predetermined inclination angle with respect to an emission axis of the electron beam. The X-ray emission window is disposed at a position where the X-ray generated in a direction perpendicular to the target portion is transmittable through the X-ray emission window, to face the target portion at a predetermined inclination angle.

Abstract: A radiotherapy system includes an X-ray target configured to convert an incident electron beam into a therapeutic X-ray beam, a purging magnet configured to redirect unwanted particles emitted from the X-ray target away from the therapeutic X-ray beam, and a particle collector configured to absorb the unwanted particles subsequent to redirection by the purging magnet. The particle collector may be configured to dissipate at least 50% of the energy of the incident electron beam.

Abstract: A method and a device for determining the material properties of a polycrystalline, in particular metallic, product during production or quality control of the polycrystalline, in particular metallic, product by means of X-ray diffraction using at least one X-ray source and at least one X-ray detector. In this case, an X-ray generated by the X-ray source is directed onto a surface of the polycrystalline product and the resulting diffraction image of the X-ray is recorded by the X-ray detector. After exiting the X-ray source, the X-ray is passed through an X-ray mirror, wherein the X-ray is both monochromatized and focused, by the X-ray mirror, in the direction of the polycrystalline product and/or the X-ray detector, and then reaches a surface of the metallic product.

Abstract: A planar filament for an x-ray tube can have a different cross-sectional area at different locations. In regions of smaller cross-sectional area, there can be higher current density, and thus increased heating and higher temperature of the wire. In regions of larger cross-sectional area, there can be lower current density, and thus decreased heating of the wire. Regions of larger cross-sectional area can also be stronger, thus reducing early filament failures. Wider regions can have increased area for electron emission. By adjusting the cross-sectional area and width of the wire at different locations, electron emission can be largely confined to a center of the filament, and filament life can increase.

Abstract: An X-ray beam is generated in an interaction zone of an electron beam and a target, the zone being an annular layer of a molten fusible metal in an annular channel of a rotating anode assembly. The channel has a surface profile which prevents slopping of the molten metal in the radial direction and in both directions along the rotation axis. The liquid-metal target forms a circular cylindrical surface due to the centrifugal force acting thereupon. The linear velocity of the target is preferably higher than 80 m/s; in a vacuum chamber, a changeable membrane made of carbon nanotubes is installed in the X-ray beam path and a protective screen with apertures for electron beam entry and X-ray beam exit is arranged around the interaction zone. The technical result consists in an X-ray source with increased power, brightness, lifetime and ease of use.

Abstract: Systems and methods provide a radiotherapy treatment by focusing an electron beam on an x-ray target (e.g., a tungsten plate) to produce a high-yield x-ray output with improved field shaping. A modified electron beam spatial distribution is employed to scan the x-ray target, such as a 2D periodic beam path, which advantageously lowers the temperature of the x-ray target compared to typical compact beam spatial distribution. As a result, the x-ray target can produce a high yield x-ray output without sacrificing the life span of the x-ray target. The use of a 2D periodic beam path allows a much colder x-ray target functioning regime such that more dosage can be applied in a short period of time compared to existing techniques.
