Abstract: A method and apparatus for establishing a pathway for performing an automated validation of a condition of assembly. A sensor system coupled to an automated guided vehicle is moved into test positions relative to the structure. Image data is generated at each test position, using the sensor system, to build test images. Each test image is registered to a computer model of the structure to form registered images that are added to a collection of registered images. An optimal set of positions that will allow an entirety of an area of interest to be captured using a fewest number of registered images from the collection of registered images is determined. A pathway is generated for moving the automated guided vehicle to each optimal position in a least amount of time. A computer file identifying the pathway is generated for use in performing the automated validation of the condition of assembly.

Abstract: An unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) includes a mast attached to a UGV body at a base end. The mast extends a predetermined distance to a mast head which can include a mast-head device. A flipper assembly includes at least one flipper arm which is rotatably mounted to the UGV body to help facilitate UGV stability and/or mobility. A flipper actuator causes the flipper arm to rotate about a flipper rotation axis. Movement of the mast between a stowed configuration and a deployed configuration is selectively controlled by operation of the flipper assembly.

Abstract: A mobile robot guest for interacting with a human resident performs a room-traversing search procedure prior to interacting with the resident, and may verbally query whether the resident being sought is present. Upon finding the resident, the mobile robot may facilitate a teleconferencing session with a remote third party, or interact with the resident in a number of ways. For example, the robot may carry on a dialogue with the resident, reinforce compliance with medication or other schedules, etc. In addition, the robot incorporates safety features for preventing collisions with the resident; and the robot may audibly announce and/or visibly indicate its presence in order to avoid becoming a dangerous obstacle. Furthermore, the mobile robot behaves in accordance with an integral privacy policy, such that any sensor recording or transmission must be approved by the resident.

Abstract: A roadway-infrastructure-maintenance system using automated-vehicles to maintain a roadway includes an image-device and a controller. The imaging-device is suitable to mount on a host-vehicle. The imaging-device is used to detect an infrastructure-feature proximate to a roadway traveled by the host-vehicle. The controller is in communication with the imaging-device. The controller is configured to determine a need-for-maintenance of the infrastructure-feature. The system may include a digital-map that indicates an expected-presence of the infrastructure-feature, and the need-for-maintenance may be indicated when the infrastructure-feature is not-detected as expected. The system may also include a transmitter in communication with the controller. The transmitter may be used to communicate the need-for-maintenance to a maintenance-organization.
