A receptacle connector mounted to a PCB, includes an insulative housing defining a mating tongue and a metallic shell enclosing the housing to form a mating cavity in which said mating tongue forwardly extends. A metallic shielding plate is embedded within a mid-level of the mating tongue wherein a leg of the shielding plate and a tail of an outermost grounding contact share the same conductive grounding region on the PCB. A plug connector mateable with the receptacle connector, includes an insulative housing defining a mating cavity to receive the mating tongue and equipped with a plurality of contacts and a metallic latch beside the mating cavity, wherein a tail of one grounding contact and a leg of the latch share the same conductive grounding region on a paddle card, which is behind the mating cavity and on which tails of the contacts are electrically and mechanically mounted.

An electrical connector includes an outer shell formed by metal-injection mold and a terminal module including a base and a mating tongue extending forwardly from the base and loaded with a plurality of terminals, and a waterproof glue. The shell includes a seat and a sidewall extending forwardly from the seat, the seat defines a front opening and a receiving cavity. The base is received in the receiving cavity and the mating tongue extends across the front opening and located in the mating cavity. The seat defines a pouring hole from an outer face thereof and communicating with the receiving cavity, the glue is filled with gap between the terminal module and the outer shell via the pouring hole.

An electrical connector assembly includes a housing comprising a rear base and a mating tongue extending forward from the base; a row of upper terminals and a row of lower terminals retained on the housing, each terminal including a contacting section exposed to mating tongue and a pin leg section from the base, and the contacting sections of the upper and lower terminals being aligned with each in a vertical direction. The contacting sections of each row terminals are arranged in different central pitch, the pin leg sections of the upper and lower terminals are aligned with each in a front and back direction and the pin leg sections of each row are arranged with a same central pitch.

A receptacle includes an insulating housing including a base and a mating tongue, upper contacts and lower contacts, a metallic shell and a shielding plate. The contacts include plate contacting sections exposed upon the mating tongue. The shielding plate is disposed in the mating tongue and the base and isolated from the upper and lower contacts. The metallic shell is retained on the base and surrounding the mating tongue to define a mating port which is inserted with a plug connector in either of two insertion orientations. The front sides of the shielding plate is exposed to the front side of the mating tongue and the lateral sides of the shielding plates is exposed to the corresponding lateral sides of the mating tongue for protection under an improper angular mating of the plug connector.

An electrical connector includes a terminal module including an insulative housing, and upper contacts, lower contacts and a shielding plate embedded in the housing. The housing includes a base and a mating tongue extending from the base, the mating tongue defines an upper surface, a lower surface and a front face thereof. The upper and lower contacts includes contacting sections exposing to the upper and lower surfaces of the mating tongue and soldering sections out of the base and connecting section jointing the contacting sections and the soldering sections, respectively. The shielding plate is disposed between the upper and lower contacts and includes a pair of side latches. The housing includes an insulative sub-housing and an insulative coat, the whole upper surface and the whole front face of the mating tongue and part of the lower surface of the mating tongue are formed with the coat.

A metallic shielding plate is embedded within the mating tongue and forms a pair of locking notches in two opposite lateral sides. The mating tongue further includes in two opposite lateral sides a pair of recesses aligned with and intimately located inside of the pair of locking notches, respectively, in the transverse direction. The housing and the corresponding contacts commonly form the terminal module which is composed of an upper terminal module, a lower terminal module commonly sandwiching a shielding plate module therebetween in the vertical direction. The metallic shield optionally defines a clip structure by folding an extension on a rear lower edge thereof.
