Abstract:
A method of neutralizing acidic components in petroleum refining units in which distillation is taking place, which method comprises adding a compound corresponding to Formula I below either alone or in combination with a film-forming amine to the petroleum product being distilled:Formula Ir--o--(ch.sub.2).sub.n NH.sub.2wherein n is 2 or 3 and R is a lower alkyl radical of not more than 4 carbon atoms.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method of minimizing pathogen cross-contamination and enhancing infection mitigation at a workplace includes placing tags at selected locations, requiring at least some workplace personnel to carry mobile devices, and logging interactions between the mobile devices and tags as tapping events. Tags can be powered or unpowered. Tapping can include RF or Bluetooth communication, and/or indicia scanning. Tapping events can be wirelessly directed to a server by the tags and/or mobile devices. The logged tapping can be used to identify high risk locations, record user movements, monitor user compliance with assigned schedules and locations, and monitor compliance with specified sanitation schedules. During mitigation of an infection event, the logged tapping can be used to identify persons at high risk of direct cross-contamination due to proximity to an infected person and/or surface-mitigated cross-contamination due to occupation of a location shortly after occupation thereof by the infected person.
Abstract:
A method of minimizing cross-contamination of pathogens between persons within a facility includes placing tags onto shared resources such as tables, desks, chairs, coffee makers, microwave ovens, sinks, bathroom stalls, etc. A mobile device senses the tags and approximates their locations, in embodiments relative to tagged anchor points. The mobile device can include any combination of tag-sensing and locating features, including a camera, LIDAR, GPS, sonic distance measurement, and accelerometers for inertial position sensing. In embodiments, the approximated tag locations can be verified and corrected as needed by using augmented reality to project the estimated tag locations onto the actual scene. The accurately determined tag locations are then used to assign resources to persons within the facility, whereby spatial distancing between persons and time intervals between usage of the same resource are maximized. A log of the resource assignments can be used to enhance contact tracing.

Abstract:
A chopper and corner rounder (10) for a web material includes tool pairs (14, 16; 18, 20) driven by two double eccentrics (22, 24), the first double eccentric driving the upper knife by a first eccentric and the upper punch by a second eccentric, the first and second eccentrics being 180.degree. out of phase; the second double eccentric driving the lower knife by a third eccentric and the lower die by a fourth eccentric, the third and fourth eccentrics being 180.degree. out of phase. The first double eccentric is driven at the same speed but in the opposite direction as the second double eccentric.
Abstract:
Test device apparatus is disclosed containing a electrically conductive region which provides information concerning the nature of the test device and/or its position. In a preferred embodiment a conductive strip is applied to a test device and used to determine the identification of the test device, the position of the test device and/or calibrate an instrument which is used to read the test device. The conductive strip generates a signal by measuring the resistance ratio of the electrical path through its conductive region using three or more electrodes or probes. The signal obtained by the electrodes is used to determine the characteristics indicated above or to program operational parameters within an instrument used to analyze the test device.
Abstract:
A linear motion encoder which employs a potentiometer type motion detector. It includes an elongated rectangular or cylindrical housing in which are one or two rails for guiding an insulated block to move lengthwise of the housing while being moved by a shaft connected to the block via an anti-backlash spring means. The block carries wiper contacts which respectively contact a fixed resistance element and a fixed commutator strip mounted on one wall of the housing or on the rail. An analog to digital circuit may be disposed in the housing to apply a reference voltage to opposite ends of the resistance strip. The circuit takes a linearly variable analog voltage from the commutator strip when the block moves lengthwise inside the housing driven by the axially moving shaft.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for converting spectral and light intensity values directly to digital data, utilizes an image sensor having at least one row of sensor elements, each element including a light sensitive capacitor and an access switch and which changes state and produces a corresponding digital output signal when a predetermined charge threshold is exceeded by the capacitor whose charge is a function of light intensity of an illuminating light source. The image sensor is illuminated with a reference light source having a known intensity through a neutral density gradient filter and the digital output of the sensor is examined for the row to obtain digital data corresponding to the number of state changes in the row. The image sensor is then illuminated with an unknown light source through the filter and the digital output of the sensor for the row is examined to obtain digital data corresponding to the number of state changes in the row. The intensity of the unknown light source is determined in digital form for the row as a function of the digital data and the known intensity of the reference light source.
Abstract:
A refrigerator including two compartments, one of which is maintained at a temperature above freezing and the other of which is maintained at a below freezing temperature. The refrigerator cabinet is divided into the two compartments by a divider that is slidably received in support grooves in the side walls of the cabinet. A self-contained pre-assembled air circulating and cooling module is arranged on the rear wall of the cabinet and the divider installed so that air circulated through the pre-assembled module is proportionally divided between the compartments in amounts sufficient to maintain the compartments at the preselected temperature.
Abstract:
A sensor-integrator utilizes a light sensing diode directly connected to the inputs of an operational amplifier. The operational amplifier forms part of a dual-slope integrator and directly integrates the current generated by the light sensing diode thereby eliminating the need for preamplifiers and diode switching circuitry.
