Abstract:
A coating composition is formed from an acid-set coating varnish and a pigment composition. The pigment composition includes a specific organic dyestuff derivative and a specific basic-group-containing resin-type pigment dispersant. The coating composition excels in pigment dispersibility, nonflocculation properties, noncrystallizability and fluidity. When used as a coating, the coating composition has excellent color tone, gloss, hardness, weather resistance, and solvent resistance.
Abstract:
There is described a curable coating composition comprising: (A) a carbamate-functional component that is the reaction product of: (1) a compound having a plurality of hydroxyl groups that is the reaction product of: (a) a compound comprising at least one epoxide group and (b) a compound comprising at least one organic acid group and at least one hydroxyl group, (2) a compound comprising a carbamate group, and (B) a component comprising a plurality of groups that are reactive with the carbamate functional groups on component (A).
Abstract:
A water-based coating composition and methods of making and using the same are disclosed. The composition includes a halogenated resin, a polyol, a surfactant, and an amine. It is suitable for coating a variety of substrates including polyolefinic substrates such as polypropylene, and operates without aromatic organic solvents.
Abstract:

The pigmented base coat composition includes (1) an OH-containing resin, (2) an amino resin, (3) a polyorganosiloxane resin a number average molecule weight of at least 1,000 and having at least two groups per molecule selected from a silanol group and an alkoxysilane group and (4) a flaky metal or a mica powder in (5) an organic solvent. The clear top coat composition includes (1) an OH- and epoxy-containing base resin which additionally contains at least one of a silanol group and a hydrolyzable group bound directly to a silicon atom, (2) a curing catalyst and (3) an organic solvent.
Abstract:
Non liquid-crystalline esterphenol-capped liquid polymer and polyol compositions in combination with an amino crosslinking agent endow coating compositions containing them with the ability of providing films having superior properties. The esterphenol-capped polymers and polyols can be prepared by direct esterification of hydroxybenzoic acid without its decarboxylation.
Abstract:
A thermosetting coating composition comprising as essential components:(a) a hydroxyl group-containing base resin,(b) an alicyclic polyepoxide crosslinking agent, and(c) a catalyst selected from the group consisting of a quaternary ammonium hydroxide and a metal chelate.
Abstract:
Transesterification curing of ester polymers and hydroxyl polymers is effected by the inclusion of a transesterification catalyst comprising a catalytic amount of epoxy resin and certain inorganic salts.
Abstract:
Coating compositions comprising a polymeric polyol with a polyester crosslinking agent having at least two beta-alkoxyester groups per molecule are disclosed. The compositions, when applied to a substrate and cured in the presence of a transesterification catalyst, give solvent-resistant coatings.
Abstract:
A heat-curable composition is disclosed comprising a hydroxyl-bearing polymer; a liquid, polyglycol hemi-formal diluent; and an aminoplast or phenolic resin capable of curing the hydroxyl-bearing polymer. Optionally, a pigment may be added to the composition.
