Abstract: A scanning device includes a transparent platen which receives a sheet to be scanned. A backing assembly is spaced from the platen by the sheet during scanning. The backing assembly includes a backing plate of a fixed color and an electrochromic layer intermediate the backing plate and the platen. The electrochromic layer has a first state in which the electrochromic layer is opaque and has a different color from the fixed color, and a second state, in which the electrochromic layer is transparent to expose the backing plate through it. A sensor is positioned to acquire an image of the sheet based on light passing through the platen. A controller selectively applies a voltage across the electrochromic layer to change the electrochromic layer between the first and second states.

Abstract: To provide a novel display panel with high convenience or high reliability. The display panel includes a pixel including a functional layer, a first display element, and a second display element. The functional layer includes a pixel circuit and includes a region positioned between the first and second display elements. The pixel circuit is electrically connected to the first and second display elements. The first display element includes a reflective film and is configured to control the intensity of light reflected by the reflective film. The reflective film has a shape that does not block light emitted from the second display element. The second display element includes a light-emitting element and is provided such that display using the second display element can be seen from part of a region where display using the first display element can be seen.

Abstract: An electrochromic (EC) privacy window includes an EC pane unit including a first EC device having a bright state and a dark state, and a privacy device facing the EC pane unit and having a bright state and a privacy state configured to attenuate visible radiation transmitted through the window. In some embodiments, when the privacy device is in the privacy state, the window has transmitted haze of greater that 80%. In other embodiments, when the privacy device is in the privacy state and the first EC device is in the dark state, the window has a visible transmittance of about 0.1% or less.

Abstract: A display system which enables a stereoscopic image to be perceived by the naked eye is provided. The display system includes a display panel which can display a first image, a second image, a third image, and a fourth image. The first image has a region overlapping with the third image. The second image has a region overlapping with the fourth image. The first image and the third image are perceived by one of the right and left eyes and the second image and the fourth image are perceived by the other of the right and left eyes, so that a composite image of the first to fourth images is stereoscopically perceivable.

Abstract: Anisotropic film laminates for use in image-preserving reflectors such as rearview automotive mirror assemblies, and related methods of fabrication. A film may comprise an anisotropic layer such as a light-polarizing layer and other functional layers. The film having controlled water content is heated under omnidirectional pressure and vacuum to a temperature substantially equal to or above a lower limit of a glass-transition temperature range of the film so as to be laminated to a substrate. The laminated film is configured as part of a mirror structure so as to increase contrast of light produced by a light source positioned behind the mirror structure and transmitted through the mirror structure towards a viewer. The mirror structure is devoid of any extended distortion and is characterized by SW and LW values less than 3, more preferably less than 2, and most preferably less than 1.

Abstract: A display device with high luminance and excellent white balance is provided. The display device includes a first display element, a second display element, a first transistor, and a second transistor. The first display element includes a light-emitting layer and is electrically connected to the first transistor. The first transistor includes a first semiconductor film, a first gate electrode and a second gate electrode facing each other with the first semiconductor film provided therebetween, and a first source electrode and a first drain electrode over and in contact with the first semiconductor film. The second gate electrode is electrically connected to the first source electrode or the first drain electrode. The second display element includes a light-emitting layer and is electrically connected to the second transistor. The second transistor includes a second semiconductor film, and a third gate electrode and a fourth gate electrode facing each other with the second semiconductor film provided therebetween. The fourth gate electrode is electrically connected to the third gate electrode.

Abstract: A vision system for a vehicle includes a forward-viewing camera located behind and viewing through the vehicle windshield, a rear backup camera located at the rear of the vehicle, and a common image processor operable for processing captured image data. A video display screen is located within the interior cabin of the vehicle viewable by a driver of the vehicle. Responsive to the vehicle being shifted into a reverse gear and while the driver is executing a reversing maneuver, video images derived from image data captured by at least the rear backup camera are displayed on the video display screen. When the vehicle is travelling forward, the common image processor processes image data captured by the forward-viewing camera for a lane departure warning system of the vehicle and for a headlamp control system of the vehicle and/or a traffic sign recognition system of the vehicle.
