Abstract: A system and method for providing notification of a change in status of a photofinisher is provided. The method includes the steps of providing a photofinisher configured for producing a print product incorporating a digital image, the print product being specified in a print order; receiving the print order to be produced by the photofinisher; detecting a change in status of the photofinisher; and sending a notification to at least one remote computing device, wherein the notification sent to the at least one remote computing device includes information related to the change in status of the photofinisher. A method for classifying the change in status and directing the notification to a selected group of remote computing devices is also provided.

Abstract: In an image-forming system, the first determining unit is configured to determine whether at least one image-forming device among the plurality of image-forming device is capable of performing the image print process. The second determining unit is configured to determine whether to restrict an image-forming device among the plurality of image-forming devices to execute the test print process based on a result of determination by the first determining unit. The restricting unit is configured to restrict the image-forming device to execute the test print process when the second determining unit determines to restrict the image-forming device to execute the test print process.

Abstract: A power management method of an image forming apparatus which communicates with at least one terminal device supporting a universal plug and play (UPnP) protocol, including: setting power save mode information which includes a plurality of levels corresponding to the UPnP protocol to the image forming apparatus; storing the set power save mode information; receiving a command to enter a first power save mode among the plurality of levels from the terminal device; comparing the received command to enter the first power save mode with the stored power save mode information; and entering a power save mode by the image forming apparatus corresponding to the received command to enter the first power save mode. With this configuration, the image forming apparatus supporting a UPnP protocol categorizes power save modes by using a low power protocol of the UPnP protocol, and can reduce unnecessary power consumption and improves usability.

Abstract: An image reading device includes a reading portion and a communication portion. The reading portion reads an image. The communication portion performs communications with an external device by using a first class driver and a second class driver simultaneously. The communication portion includes a first transmission portion, a receiving portion, and a second transmission portion. The first transmission portion transmits to the external device, using the first class driver, data that are used for executing an application that enables the external device to issue a command to the image reading device. The receiving portion receives a command to read an image from the external device using the second class driver. The second transmission portion transmits to the external device, in a case where the receiving portion has received the command to read an image, using the second class driver, an image that has been read by the reading portion.

Abstract: An image processing apparatus which permits service providing an image forming that has high priority is selected as an image processing apparatus for storing count information by using service information representing whether each image processing apparatus permits counting the usage of printing materials in order to allow charging of service for providing the image forming associated with each user identification information, and a priority table for storing count information based on the contents of image forming. When image forming is executed, the count information representing the contents of the executed image forming is transmitted to the selected image processing apparatus, thereby causing the selected image processing apparatus to store the count information.

Abstract: This invention provides an image processing apparatus which handles process target image data as data of various kinds of layouts without storing image data of each layout in a memory, a method of controlling the same, and a computer-readable storage medium storing a computer program. To accomplish this, the image processing apparatus creates, from stored image data, output data complying with an output method. If the layout of the stored image data is not appropriate to the output method, the image processing apparatus executes a conversion process of the image data.

Abstract: In a conventional system, an eventing method and status inquiry method based on one-to-one communication are not suitable for notifying many unspecified network-connected hosts of the status of an apparatus in accordance with the WSD and UPnP protocols. A multicast packet capable of notifying many unspecified apparatuses of the status using one packet cannot transmit statuses other than connection and disconnection of an apparatus. To solve these problems, when the status of an apparatus changes, an identifier which is contained in a multicast packet and indicates the apparatus itself is sent after being replaced in accordance with the apparatus status without changing a format defined by a standard protocol. Upon receiving the packet, an apparatus determines, from the identifier contained in the multicast packet, whether to acquire information of the apparatus.
