Abstract:
In prior art, the wear resistance and frictional properties of a sliding member are improved by adding bismuth, an alkaline earth metal salt or the like, but not lead, to a polytetrafluoroethylene used as a base resin, in view of the undesirable influences of lead on the environment. However, a further improved wear resistance at a high PV value has been desirable. In the present invention, a sliding member having excellent wear resistance and frictional properties even when used at a high PV value can be obtained by using a thermosetting resin as a base resin in a proportion of 50 to 80 vol % and adding thereto a PTFE with a molecular weight of 3,000,000 or more in a proportion of 10 to 40 vol % and bismuth and/or a bismuth alloy in a proportion of 1 to 20 vol %.
Abstract:
According to the invention there is provided a liquid friction control composition characterized as either having a high and positive friction characteristic or a low and neutral friction characteristic, comprising a retentivity agent. The liquid friction control composition may also comprise other components such as a solid lubricant, a wetting agent, a consistency modifier, and a preservative. The liquid friction control compositions may be used to modify the interfacial friction characteristics in sliding and rolling-sliding contact such as steel wheel-rail systems including mass transit and freight systems.
Abstract:
This invention relates to novel water soluble metal working fluid compositions, their use to work metal, a process for working metal using such compositions and the metal worked article of manufacture. More particularly, this invention relates to fluid compositions useful in cutting, grinding, shaping and other metal working operations which require a lubricant. The terms “first Group A” and “second Group B” are used herein to denote different groups and not to indicate any sequence of use or selection as any possible combination or sequence of use of a component(s) is envisioned without limit of any kind. The disclosed fluid compositions are also anticorrosive and environmentally more acceptable than current oil based fluids. There has now been discovered an essentially odorless, substantially non-oil misting, water-soluble metal working fluid comprising at least one component selected from a first Group A herein and optionally one or more components selected from a second Group B herein preferably with the balance of the composition being water and other (optional) minor ingredients. When a component is employed from Group A and a component is employed from Group B the action of the combination generally enhances performance of the resulting combination with contain moieties from both Group A and Group B.

The disclosure relates to improved gel/grease compositions as well as grease compositions capable of imparting improved corrosion resistance. The grease includes a silica/silicate mixture that can imparts a relatively high pH and corrosion resistant properties to the grease.
Abstract:
This invention discloses novel catalyzed surface composition altering formulations and methods and catalyzed surface coating formulations and methods, which contain one or more catalysts, along with optional other ingredients, wherein the catalysts serve to effect in situ chemical bonding reactions in that the catalysts function to initiate, to promote, to accelerate, and/or to increase the formation and yield of persistent, solid, corrosion-resistant, impact-resistant, wear-resistant, and/or non-stick surface compositions and surface coating films, which may exhibit pigmentation and other aesthetic features, and may be designed to be environmentally benign. The disclosed formulation and methods may be used to alter the surface composition and to coat the surfaces of vehicles, such as aircraft, and to improve the anti-icing characteristics of the vehicle surfaces.
Abstract:
A lubricating composition containing an organic molybdenum compound having excellent oxidation stability that provides lubricity for long periods of time is provided. The lubricant comprises a molybdenum amine compound obtained by reacting a compound containing a hexavalent molybdenum atom with an amine represented by the following formula (1): wherein each of R1 to R3 represents a hydrogen atom and/or a hydrocarbon group, and at least one of R1 to R3 is a chain hydrocarbon group having 14 or more carbon atoms; or the following formula (2) wherein R4 represents a chain hydrocarbon group having 10 or more carbon atoms, s represents 0 or 1, X and/or Y represents a hydrogen atom, a hydrocarbon group, an alkanol group or an alkyl amino group having 2 to 4 carbon atoms, and X and Y are not hydrogen atoms or hydrocarbon groups at the same time when s is 0. A lubricating composition containing the lubricant is also provided.

Abstract:
A water-soluble cutting fluid which is characterized by excellent cooling and lubricating properties and does not exert a harmful influence on the environment. A solution containing hydrogencarbonate ion, bromide ion, carbonic acid ion, and, if necessary, fluoride ion, and being adjusted to a pH of 7.0 to 11.5 can be used as a substitute for a cutting oil. A water-soluble cutting fluid further including additives such as rust-preventive agents and the like can be also used as a substitute for conventional cutting oil.
Abstract:
Extreme pressure lubricants, concentrates and greases. Disclosed herein are extreme pressure metal working lubricants which comprise a lubricant base material and a reaction product of (1) an amine containing from 1 to about 30 carbon atoms and (2) sulfamic acid or derivative thereof containing from 1 to about 30 carbon atoms. The reaction product or extreme pressure additive may be either water soluble or oil soluble. Amines containing from 1 to about 7 carbon atoms are generally used for making water soluble reaction products, and amines containing 8 or more (up to about 30) carbon atoms are generally used for making oil soluble reaction products. Water based lubricants comprise water and a water soluble reaction product. Oil based lubricants comprise an oil of lubricating viscosity and an oil soluble reaction product. Reaction products may be either addition products or sulfonamides.
Abstract:
A heavy-duty lubricating grease is shown which includes a synthetic fluid base and a thickener system. The heavy-duty grease can be used in both rolling element and journal type rock bit bearings to drill in heavy-duty, high temperature applications, such as in the bearing structures of rock bits used to drill hot subterranean formations.
