Abstract:
An internal combustion engine includes an engine housing defining a cylinder, and a first and a second gas exchange valve for the cylinder, positioned within the engine housing. The engine further includes a valve actuating mechanism having a first and a second valve lifter reciprocating within adjacent lifter bores to actuate the first and second gas exchange valves. Each of the first and second valve lifters includes an end cap having a misalignment limiting projection, limiting rotation of the valve lifter in response to dynamic perturbation.
Abstract:
A variable valve timing apparatus, and internal combustion engine incorporating the same, that allows the timing of the opening and/or closing of intake and/or exhaust cylinder valves to be altered relative to a reference timing. As a result, the timing of the valve event can be adjusted relative to a phase of the crankshaft and/or the cycle of the pistons
Abstract:
An internal combustion engine for a vehicle, such as a motorcycle, includes a crankcase defining a sump, and a lubrication system scavenging oil from the crankcase and supplying oil to the crankshaft and to first and second cylinder heads. The lubrication system includes a pump with housing and rotor, the housing being fixed to the crankcase and the rotor being rotatable around a crankshaft axis and being rotated by the crankshaft. A plurality of oil supply passages extend through the crankcase, potentially including at least one being formed in the crankcase.
Abstract:
In a switching element (1) for a valve train of an internal combustion engine for switching to different valve lifts, said switching element (1) comprising an outer element (2) having an inner element (4) arranged for axial displacement therein, each of the outer and the inner element (2, 4) comprising a reception (11, 9) aligned to each other in a relative position, at least one piston (10) being arranged in at least one of the receptions (11, 9) for sliding toward the other of the receptions (9, 11) to couple the inner element (4) to the outer element (2) in said relative position, and a high-position stop for defining said relative position being arranged between the inner and the outer element (4, 2), at least one part of the high-position stop is configured as an adjustable, separate element (13). This element (13) cooperates through a preferably conical section (15) of its outer periphery with a complementary chamfer (18) on one end (17) of a guide (16) in the outer element (2). By these extremely simple fabrication measures, an aligned adjustment of the receptions (9, 11) is created for effecting coupling.
Abstract:
The two-stroke engine has a plurality of intake passages extending from the external air inlet port through the crankcase, separating the intake air charge from the air and oil vapor within the crankcase. The piston has one or more corresponding inlet tubes depending therefrom that telescope within the crankcase intake passages as the piston reciprocates. All intake air travels through these passages and is separated from the remainder of the crankcase volume. The incoming air charge passes through a concentric poppet valve in the piston crown to enter the combustion chamber. Fuel is provided by conventional direct or port injection and ignition is provided by one or more conventional spark plugs. Diesel operation is achievable when the engine is configured appropriately. Exhaust exits the combustion chamber through a poppet valve in the cylinder head, the poppet valve being actuated by a rocker arm and pushrod from a crankshaft driven cam.
Abstract:
The invention concerns a roller tappet (1) for a high pressure fuel pump, said roller tappet (1) comprising a housing (2) comprising on a drive side front end (3), a slide-mounted roller (4) serving as a running surface of a cam, said housing (2), as viewed in housing direction, comprising a bridge member (5) arranged below the roller (4), said bridge member (5) comprising on a front end (7) turned towards a driven side front end (6) of the housing (2), a support (8) for a tappet follower member, wherein a shell member (11) like a semi shell or a one-third shell separated out of a rolling bearing ring is seated in a cylindrical cavity (9) of a further drive side front end (10) of the bridge member (5), and the roller (4) extends for sliding displacement directly in said shell member (11).
Abstract:
An internal combustion engine includes a housing defining a lifter bore, and a slot in communication with the lifter bore. A valve lifter assembly is positioned within the lifter bore such that a key pin of the valve lifter assembly extends into the slot. The key pin has a contoured outer surface contacting the engine housing within the slot at a first and a second rotational orientation of the valve lifter, to limit misalignment thereof.
Abstract:
A motorcycle engine rocker arm stand having a pair of rocker arm assemblies spaced a distance “D” from each other effective to increase the “rocker arm ratio” and therefore the horsepower output of the engine. Each rocker arm assembly includes a first arm portion and a second arm portion oriented along an axis disposed at an acute angle to the axis of the first arm portion. Each rocker arm further includes a roller contact for engagement with the intake valve stem of the engine and an axially adjustable contact member for engagement with the engine's push rod. The axially adjustable contact member axis is disposed at a second acute angle with respect to the axis of the first arm portion.
Abstract:
An engine lubrication and speed control method is provided. The four-cycle engine has a lightweight aluminum alloy engine block having a cylindrical bore and an oil reservoir formed therein. A vertical or horizontal crankshaft is rotatably mounted in the engine block for rotation about a crankshaft axis. A piston reciprocates within the bore and is connected to the crankshaft by a connecting rod. An oil pump is driven by the camshaft connected with a cam gear, which mates with a crank gear that is driven by the crankshaft, inhales the oil from the oil reservoir to splash lubricate into the cylinder bore and valve chamber. The engine is provided with a cylinder head assembly defining a compact combustion chamber having a pair of overhead intake and exhaust ports and cooperating intake and exhaust valves. A commonality of parts between the horizontal and the vertical engine is highly achieved.
