Abstract:
An apparatus and method for easily setting a macro of a programmable remote control using a PC. The apparatus setting a macro of a remote control including: an input unit, inputting data or commands; a display unit displaying the data input by the user and/or data that is able to be selected by the user; a data transceiver receiving data from the remote control and transmitting data to the remote control; a memory storing device names assigned by the user and a data file of device function control commands received from the remote control via the data transceiver; and a controller displaying on the display unit a list of the device names and the commands included in the data file stored in the memory and setting a command selected from the command list as a macro command corresponding to a macro name.
Abstract:
A home-automation system (108) and method (300) for controlling at least one device of a plurality of devices in a home-automation network (104) are disclosed. The home-automation system includes a receiver (202) configured to receive a signal indicative of location a user. The user is located beyond the proximity of the home being automated by the home-automation network. The home-automation system also includes a processor (208) adapted to control the at least one device of the plurality of devices in response to the received indicative signal.
Abstract:
A method of remotely controlling at least one domestic appliance, remote control of such domestic appliances is triggered automatically by detecting a mobile communications terminal entering or leaving a radio reception perimeter of a control device. The control device is a home gateway or more simply a modem provided with a radio access unit.
Abstract:
A system and process for selecting objects in an ubiquitous computing environment where various electronic devices are controlled by a computer via a network connection and the objects are selected by a user pointing to them with a wireless RF pointer. By a combination of electronic sensors onboard the pointer and external calibrated cameras, a host computer equipped with an RF transceiver decodes the orientation sensor values transmitted to it by the pointer and computes the orientation and 3D position of the pointer. This information, along with a model defining the locations of each object in the environment that is associated with a controllable electronic component, is used to determine what object a user is pointing at so as to select that object for further control actions.
Abstract:
A remote operating apparatus includes a selection decision operating device, a controller, a first operation function changing button and a second operation function changing button for changing an operation function of the selection decision operating device. The controller controls the operation function of the selection decision operating device by receiving a signal from the first operation function changing button or the second operation function changing button and switches among a basic controlled state that enables one to select and decide a combination of a plurality of set values, the combination constituted of an operation mode set value of the remote operating apparatus and an input switching set value of a remote operated apparatus, by operation of the selection decision operating device, a first controlled state that enables one to select and decide an operation mode set value of the remote operating apparatus independently by operation of the selection decision operating device when the first operation function changing button is pressed, and a second controlled state that enables one to select and decide an input switching set value of the remote operated apparatus independently by operation of the selection decision operating device when the second operation function changing button is pressed.
Abstract:
A remote control unit for an entertainment system comprising a television or other display device, and a plurality of peripheral devices connected to the televisions. The remote control unit is adapted to send and receive information signals to and from the television and to the peripheral devices to control the devices. The television and remote control unit both preferably includes a receiver and transmitter and appropriate memory and logic coupled to the transmitter and receiver. Alternatively, the remote control unit preferably includes a receiver and transmitter and a repeater coupled to the receiver and the transmitter. In operation, the remote control unit sends commands to the television, which responds by sending information or a specific command back to the remote control unit. The remote control unit then retrieves and sends a specific command or repeats and sends the command received from the television to the appropriate peripheral device.
Abstract:
A wireless remote control method enables a remote controller to control a plurality of controlled electrical appliances through a turner. The remote controller searches at least one accessible controlled electrical appliance through a transmission packet of a wireless communication protocol. The turner provides at least one accessible controlled electrical appliance to the remote controller. The remote controller sends linking request sequence of each key of the remote controller to the turner. The controlled electrical appliance sends supportable function link request sequence of the controlled electrical appliance to the turner. The remote controller is linked with the controlled electrical appliance for remotely controlling the controlled electrical appliance.
Abstract:
A system and method for configuring a remote control to command the operation of appliances, to capture demographic data, and to provide services, such as automated warranty registration, instructions, viewing guides, etc., relevant to the appliances is provided. The system includes a database and associated server that are located remotely from the remote control and accessible via a network connection. Command codes, graphical user interface elements, and services are accessed and downloaded to the remote control, as appropriate, using data supplied to the server that identifies the appliances and/or functional capabilities of the appliances. This data can be supplied by the appliances directly or can be obtained from other sources such as barcode labels, network devices, etc.
Abstract:
A system for controlling, monitoring, and using remote applications. The system includes a mobile communications device in communication with plural gateways to plural environments having plural applications and remote devices. The control software of the mobile communications device provides a graphic user interface (GUI) that presents a multi-environment menu having icons for the plural environments, single environment menus having icons for applications within each single environment, and application submenus having icons for application messages (e.g., commands and/or other options) for each application. The gateway for each environment provides two-way communication between the mobile communications device and the remote devices.
Abstract:
A remote control for communicating commands to a target device having first data that specifies a function supported by the target device. The remote control includes a set of command key indicias, stored within the universal remote control prior to any communications with the target device, each command key indicia being assigned a function identifier. The remote control is adapted to receive the first data from the target device and select a command key indicia from the set of command key indicias that has a function identifier that corresponds to the function specified by the first data. The selected command key indicia is displayable on a display of the universal remote control in association with a command key actuatable to communicate one or more commands to the target device to control the function supported by the target device that is represented by the first data.
