Abstract: Aspects of the present invention use gene expression profiling, and gene silencing methods to identify and provide a plurality of ‘validated’ KSHV-induced cellular gene sequences and pathways useful as targets for modulation of KSHV-mediated effects on cellular proliferation and phenotype (e.g., cancer) associated with latent and lytic phases of the Kaposi's sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV; Human herpesvirus 8; HHV8) life cycle. Particular embodiments provide therapeutic compositions, and methods for modulation and treatment of KSHV infection or KSHV-mediated effects on cellular proliferation and phenotype, comprising inhibition of KSHV-induced gene sequences or products thereof. Additional embodiments provide screening assays for compounds useful to modulate KSHV infection or KSHV-mediated effects on cellular proliferation and phenotype. Further embodiments provide diagnostic and/or prognostic assays for KSHV infection or related conditions. Additional embodiments provide novel in vivo models for KSHV infection or related conditions. Yet further aspects provide novel methods for transforming a mammalian cell, comprising expressing, by recombinant means, a transforming amount of RDCI, Neuritin, or both, and further provide cells transformed thereby.

Abstract: A method for obtaining from genomic material genomic copy number information unaffected by amplification distortion, comprising obtaining segments of the genomic material, tagging the segments with substantially unique tags to generate tagged nucleic acid molecules, such that each tagged nucleic acid molecule comprises one segment of the genomic material and a tag, subjecting the tagged nucleic acid molecules to polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification, generating tag associated sequence reads by sequencing the product of the PCR reaction, assigning each tagged nucleic acid molecule to a location on a genome associated with the genomic material by mapping the subsequence of each tag associated sequence read corresponding to a segment of the genomic material to a location on the genome, and counting the number of tagged nucleic acid molecules assigned to the same location on the genome having a different tag, thereby obtaining genomic copy number information unaffected by amplification distortion.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided that facilitate automatic convergence and geometry alignment in projection systems. Preferably, an optical element such as a lens array is coupled to all areas of the projection system's screen and to a detector element such as a photocell array. In operation, each lens of the lens array is adapted to map an individual portion or region of the screen onto the photocell array. A microprocessor, controller or the like uses the data output from the photocells to instruct an alignment controller to center or steer the beams to compensate for convergence error at a particular location. In a center alignment mode, four (4) or more beacon dots located about the periphery of the screen are detected to determine screen size and position, which is used to center the video image and the centers of the mapped regions on the screen.

Abstract: An oil lubrication and control system, for an engine having cylinder deactivation switching lifters operated at the pressure of the full oil system, is provided with an auxiliary pressure relief valve which opens to control maximum oil pressure in the system whenever the engine speed and temperature conditions lie beyond the ability of the oil pump pressure control unit to maintain the maximum pressure limit. Addition of the auxiliary pressure relief valve allows extended operation of the switching lifters, which are limited by their construction to operation below a prescribed pressure limit. In a preferred embodiment, the auxiliary pressure relief valve is mounted in the engine crankcase in a bore connected directly with the main oil gallery to provide mounting and actuation of the auxiliary pressure relief valve with a minimum of modifications to the engine oil system design.
