Abstract: A production system for manufacturing composite porous solid articles is provided wherein the color of such articles is monitored to confirm that the articles, which are produced by heating and compressing mixtures of poly(vinylidene fluoride) binder powder (such as Kyblock® resin from Arkema) and activated carbon powder, are fully cured. Adjustments to the processing conditions are made when a region of the article appears blue (indicative of incomplete curing).

Abstract: An oxygen-absorbing resin composition including a base resin (A) which is a thermoplastic resin, an oxygen-absorbing component (B) which is a compound having an unsaturated alicyclic structure, and an oxidation promotion component (C) for promoting the oxidation of the oxygen-absorbing component (B); wherein the oxygen-absorbing component (B) is an imide compound having a molecular weight of not more than 2,000 and obtained by heat-treating an amide having been obtained by reacting an acid anhydride represented by the following formula (1): wherein the ring X is an alicyclic ring having an unsaturated bond, and Y is an alkyl group, with an aromatic amine, and wherein the oxidation promotion component (C) is a compound having a benzyl hydrogen.

Abstract: A treatment unit includes at least one treatment tank, an intake pump in fluidic communication with the at least one treatment tank via an inlet valve, an output pump in fluidic communication with the at least one treatment tank via a discharge valve, and at least one treatment basket defining a cavity. The at least one treatment basket is removably attached to the at least one treatment tank, and the at least one treatment basket is located above the inlet valve and below the discharge valve. The treatment unit also includes an electrical control panel configured to operate at least one of the intake pump, the inlet valve, the output pump, and the discharge valve. The treatment unit also includes a differential pressure sensor sensing a pressure difference across the at least one treatment basket.

Abstract: Methods for mechanochemically synthesizing compositions comprising bridged bicyclic-based compounds such as iptycene-based compounds are generally provided. In some cases, two or more polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons may be mechanochemically reacted such that the product comprises the bridged bicyclic-based compound. In some embodiments, the product (e.g., the bridged bicyclic compound) may comprise two or more [2.2.2] bicyclic cores. In certain embodiments, the mechanochemical reactions described herein may produce higher order bridged bicyclic-based compounds such as oligoiptcyenes or poly-iptycenes. In certain embodiments, the bridged bicyclic based compound comprises a molecular cage.

Abstract: A disposable, virus-trapping membrane, and a corresponding method to remove viruses from solution are described. The membrane includes a disposable, micro-porous filter membrane and a ligand immobilized on the membrane. The ligand irreversibly and selectively binds viruses. The ligand also has a pKa sufficiently high to repel antibodies via electrostatic charge repulsion.

Abstract: Cross-linked cyclopolymeric resins from N,N-diallyl quaternary ammonium monomers and tetrallylpiperazinium cross-linking monomer or salts, solvates, tautomers or stereoisomers as adsorbent materials for the removal of heavy metals from aqueous solution. A process for producing the cross-linked cyclopolymeric resins by Butler cyclocopolymerization of the monomers with a free radical initiator. The cross linked cyclopolymeric resins are polyzwitterionic or polyzwitterionic and dianionic and feature repeating units with multiple chelating centers that heavy metal ions can bind to. In addition, a method for removing heavy metals from aqueous solution via contacting and treatment with the cross-linked cyclopolymeric resins.

Abstract: A method for separating natural gas liquids (NGLs) from a hydrocarbon gas mixture containing natural gas liquids and methane, comprising the steps of: i) providing a bed of adsorbent selective for NGLs over methane; ii) passing a hydrocarbon gas mixture containing methane and NGL through the bed of adsorbent to at least partially remove NGLs from the gas mixture to produce: (a) NGL-loaded adsorbent and (b) NGL-depleted hydrocarbon gas mixture; iii) recovering the NGL-depleted hydrocarbon gas mixture; iv) regenerating the NGL-loaded adsorbent by at least partially removing NGLs from the adsorbent; and v) sequentially repeating steps (ii) and (iii) using regenerated adsorbent from step (iv).
