Abstract: The present invention relates to a replaceable insert adapted to fit within the atomization port of a spray nozzle used to atomize a gas/slurry mixture. The nozzle insert has a configuration which greatly minimizes the build-up of solids on the end of the insert, the forward face of the nozzle as well as around the atomization ports when atomizing a slurry. The improved features of the nozzle insert include (a) the interior fluid conveying passage has a constant diameter through the head of the insert; (b) the downstream end of the head is tapered and ends in a circular knife edge at the spray outlet; and (c) the tapered head extends outwardly from the forward face of the nozzle a distance sufficient for the spray outlet to be positioned beyond eddy currents which form during atomization of the gas/slurry mixture.

Abstract: Granular particles of an available chlorine-containing compound such as sodium dichloroisocyanurate are prepared by conveying a flowing stream of an aqueous slurry of the compound through a tubular chamber under pressure, injecting jets of an atomizing medium such as air into the flowing stream of said slurry to agitate and aerate said slurry, conveying the aerated slurry to an exit port in said tubular chamber, discharging the aerated slurry through said exit port into a zone of reduced pressure and enlarged area, impinging additional jets of an atomizing medium into said slurry as it passes through said exit port, whereby free expansion of said slurry into a cone of aerated droplets of said slurry is effected. The resulting droplets are contacted with a heated gas in said zone to effect evaporation of water from the aerated droplets and thereby produce dry granules of the available chlorine-containing compound.

Abstract: This invention relates to a chemical spraying apparatus that may be hand carried while spraying. The spraying apparatus is powered by a small gasoline engine that drives a low volume compressor. The compressor pressurizes the atmosphere to a given pressure as determined by the speed of the gasoline engine. A chemical insecticide is mixed in the spraying nozzle with pressurized air being supplied by the compressor with the mixing being at some point remote to the compressor. A metering valve controls the flow of the insecticide into the mixing chamber of the nozzle while spraying. Design of the nozzle insures that droplets of the insecticide are broken down to the proper size range to insure maximum effectiveness per unit volume of the active ingredient.

Abstract: A spraying apparatus includes a spraying apparatus main body, a liquid introduction portion, a gas introduction portion, a gas-liquid spout portion, a liquid inlet, a gas inlet, a tubular flow passage, a spout, a flow passage having a taper, a straightener, and a projection portion. The liquid inlet allows a liquid flow to enter a gas-liquid mixer which is a space inside the annular gas introduction portion. The gas inlet allows a gas flow to enter the gas-liquid mixer. The straightener has an opening having an uneven shape provided in the flow passage having the taper. The projection portion is provided in the liquid introduction portion, protrudes to the gas-liquid mixer, and forms the straightener and a straightening outlet.

Abstract: Apparati for generating a mist are disclosed. One apparatus is disclosed, which has an elongate hollow body (12) and an elongate member (14) located within the body (12). A transport fluid passage (16) and a nozzle (32) are defined between the body (12) and the elongate member (14). The transport fluid passage (16) has a throat portion of reduced cross-sectional area and is in fluid communication with the nozzle (32). The elongate member (14) includes a working fluid passage (26) and one or more communicating openings, such as for example, bores, annuli, and combinations thereof, (30) extending radially outward from the working fluid passage (26). The openings (30) permit a working fluid (e.g. water) to be passed into the transport fluid passage (16), whereupon the working fluid is subjected to shear forces by a high velocity transport fluid (e.g. steam). The shearing of the working fluid results in the generation of a mist formed from droplets of substantially uniform size. Methods of generating a mist using such apparati are also disclosed. Also provided are mists for fire suppression produced using an apparatus disclosed herein, as well as fire suppression systems that include any of the apparati disclosed herein. Further provided are devices, methods, and mists for various other applications including turbine cooling and decontamination.

Abstract: A spraying apparatus includes: an inner lid; a flow guide plate; and an annular member, wherein a liquid is introduced into a gas -liquid mixing section between the inner lid, the flow guide plate, and the annular member from an inner lid plate of the inner lid, the inner lid plate being a flat plate located upstream of the spraying apparatus and proximate the gas-liquid mixing section, and a gas is introduced into the gas-liquid mixing section from an opposite position, the liquid is atomized in the gas-liquid mixing section by the liquid impinging with the gas and transforming into a gas-liquid mixed fluid, and advancing to a spouting portion as the gas-liquid mixed fluid is circulated in the gas-liquid mixing section along the internal surface of the annular member on the flow guide plate and facing the gas-liquid mixing section.
