Abstract:
Copolymers are described of at least 75% by weight of tert-butyl styrene, from 1% to 24% by weight of a copolymerizable second monomer and from 1% to 10% by weight of methacrylic acid, the copolymers having certain specified solubility and rheological characteristics in AVTUR 50 aviation kerosene. A process for making the copolymers by aqueous emulsion polymerization of the monomers under certain defined conditions is also described. The copolymers are useful as additives to liquid hydrocarbon aircraft fuels for the purpose of reducing the tendency of such fuels to form inflammable mists under shock conditions.
Abstract:
This invention relates to use of surfactants, such as demulsifiers as illustrated by oxyalkylated phenol-aldehyde resins, as antistatic agents in organic fluids such as hydrocarbon fuels. These surfactants are also capable of synergistically enhancing the effect of other antistatic agents.
Abstract:
This invention relates to compositions comprising (1) .alpha.-olefin-acrylonitrile copolymers and (2) polymeric polyamines; and to such compositions in combination with organic liquids such as hydrocarbon fluids in which such compositions are effective as antistatic agents.
Abstract:
Improved additives for motor fuels and lubricants are provided comprising low molecular weight hydrogenated liquid polymers containing low levels of combined nitrogen. More specifically, hydrogenated adducts formed from normally liquid low molecular weight polydiolefins and acrylonitrile are excellent additives for motor fuels and lubricants. Motor fuels and lubricating oil compositions containing said additives are also provided.
Abstract:
Oil-soluble aliphatic copolymer having the property of a nucleator for wax crystallization e.g., ethylenevinyl acetate copolymers having a number average molecular weight within the range of 500-50,000, in combination with an oil-soluble derivative of an aromatic copolymer are useful in improving the cold flow properties of distillate hydrocarbon oils.
Abstract:
Solid waste vulcanized rubber, such as scrap tires, is heattreated to produce a fluid material which, in turn, is burned to produce heat energy and ash. Zinc and titanium are recovered from the ash.
Abstract:
WAX-CONTAINING CRUDE OILS AND RESIDUAL FUELS CONTAINING, AS A POUR POINT DEPRESSANT, A MIXTURE OF OIL SOLUBLE POLYMERS OF OLEFINICALLY UNSATURATED MONOMERS HAVING ALIPHATIC HYDROCARBON SIDE CHAINS WITH AT LEAST 14 CARBON ATOMS AND OIL SOLUBLE COPOLYMERS OF ETHYLENE AND AN OLEFINICALLY UNSATURATED ALIPHATIC MONOMER HAVING FROM 3 TO 5 CARBON ATOMS PER MOLECULE HAVE IMPROVED POUR POINT CHARACTERISTICS.
Abstract:
A process for using high molecular weight, anionic, hydrophilic polymers without formation of deleterious emulsions to facilitate flow in multiphase pipelines containing both oil and water (e.g., oil/water, oil/water/gas, oil/water/solids, and oil/water/gas/solids) such as are used for oil or gas production, gathering, and transmission; hydrotransport of oilsand or heavy oil slurries is described. Specific examples of suitable drag reducing polymers include anionic, hydrophilic polyacrylamides having a molecular weight of greater than 1 megadalton.
