Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide a memory resource optimization method and apparatus, relate to the computer field, solve a problem that existing multi-level memory resources affect each other, and optimize an existing single partitioning mechanism. A specific solution is: obtaining performance data of each program in a working set by using a page coloring technology, obtaining a category of each program in light of a memory access frequency, selecting, according to the category of each program, a page coloring-based partitioning policy corresponding to the working set, and writing the page coloring-based partitioning policy to an operating system kernel, to complete corresponding page coloring-based partitioning processing. The present invention is used to eliminate or reduce mutual interference of processes or threads on a memory resource in light of a feature of the working set, thereby improving overall performance of a computer.

Abstract: Techniques for optimizing power and computational density of data centers are described. According to various embodiments, a benchmark test is performed by a computer data center system. Thereafter, transaction information and power consumption information associated with the performance of the benchmark test are accessed. A service efficiency metric value is then generated based on the transaction information and the power consumption information, the service efficiency metric value indicating a number of transactions executed via the computer data center system during a specific time period per unit of power consumed in executing the transactions during the specific time period. The generated service efficiency metric value is then compared to a target threshold value. Thereafter, a performance summary report indicating the generated service efficiency metric value, and indicating a result of the comparison of the generated service efficiency metric value to the target value, is generated.

Abstract: A cloud environment is provided generally having at least one private data center possessing a controller/routing system and nonvolatile mass storage, a plurality of data objects retained in the nonvolatile mass storage, and a public cloud storage service provider linked to the controller/routing system. The public cloud storage service provider possessing a database containing policy decisions and metadata of the plurality of data objects. When a data object is uploaded by an end-user to a specific data bucket in the cloud environment, the private data center is the recipient of the data object because the specific data bucket is located in the private data center and not in the public cloud storage service. Meta data and location information about the data object is uploaded to the public cloud storage service provider. The private data center is not in possession of the policy decisions and the metadata for data objects. The public cloud storage service provider is communicatively linked to the end-user computing system by way of the controller/routing system. The data center is independent of the public cloud storage provider.

Abstract: Representative embodiments disclose a consistent, low latency, reliable storage system that uses quorum logic. An odd number of storage nodes are selected to store data for a client application. The odd number allows a quorum to be determined. When data is written to the storage nodes, success is identified if the data is successfully written to a majority of the storage nodes. Similarly, when a read is performed, success is identified if the majority of the storage nodes return the same value written in the same write operation. This is determined by matching a value and a version number for each node. Additional data is written to the storage nodes along with the values to allow the system to identify and repair inconsistencies in the data. In some embodiments, both the current data and prior data are stored to aid in repairing inconsistent data.

Abstract: An operating state of each of a plurality of storage units of a storage system is periodically monitored, including a storage capacity, a throughput, and overlap of clients associated with the storage units. In response to a request to redistribute data from a first of the storage units to another storage unit, a cost factor for each of remaining storage units to relocate the data of the first storage unit to each of the remaining storage units is determined. A cost factor of each of the remaining storage units is determined based on at least one of the storage capacity, the throughput, or the overlap of clients of the storage unit. A second of the storage units having a lowest cost factor amongst the remaining storage units is selected. At least a portion of the data of the first storage unit is migrated to the second storage unit.

Abstract: An instrumentation analysis system processes data streams by executing instructions specified using a data stream language program. The data stream language allows users to specify a search condition using a find block for identifying the set of data streams processed by the data stream language program. The set of identified data streams may change dynamically. The data stream language allows users to group data streams into sets of data streams based on distinct values of one or more metadata attributes associated with the input data streams. The data stream language allows users to specify a threshold block for determining whether data values of input data streams are outside boundaries specified using low/high thresholds. The elements of the set of data streams input to the threshold block can dynamically change. The low/high threshold values can be specified as data streams and can dynamically change.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer programs, for estimating think times. One of the methods includes receiving a request to perform a test of one or more computing resources. The test of the one or more computing resources is performed by simulating an interaction of one or more simulated users with the one or more computing resources. Requests are submitted from the simulated user for execution by the one or more computing resources. Respective response times of the one or more computing resources to each of the requests are measured. An estimated think time of the simulated user is computed, wherein the estimated think time is computed based on at least one preceding response time.
