Abstract:
A system for controlling temperature buildup in an IC employs a temperature sensor to provide an indication of the IC temperature to a control circuit which is configured to provide an operational clock rate to the IC which is less than the system clock rate, based on a function of the temperature of the IC or its package. In one embodiment temperature sensors are implemented as solid-state circuitry within different functional areas of a single IC, such as a microprocessor, In other embodiments, operating voltage is lowered as operating frequency is lowered. In yet another embodiment temperature sensing of multiple processors in a system is provided to a controller or controllers which are configured to allocate workload between the processors as a means to limit temperature rise, as well as to lower operational clock rate and to lower operating voltage.
Abstract:
An electronic camera operates with a small, portable computer having a card interface of the type used for communicating with a removable memory card. The camera includes an image sensor for converting an image into an electrical signal, an A/D converter for converting the electrical signal into a digital signal, and a signal processor for interfacing the digital signal to the card interface, ordinarily a slot receptacle, on the computer. By defining the interface to include a mechanical extender that physically interconnects the camera to the card slot on the computer, the camera and computer are linked in a high speed interface as a convenient, hand-held unit.
Abstract:
An image forming apparatus is provided with USB sockets on front and back sides, and includes a determining unit for determining whether or not a USB device inserted to a front side USB socket is a function enhancement device, and a control unit making, when it is determined by the determining unit that a function enhancement device is inserted to the front side USB socket, the USB device unusable and making, when it is determined that a USB device other than the function enhancement device is inserted, the USB device usable. Thus, it is possible to prevent a USB wireless LAN adapter or the like from being used constantly connected to the front side USB socket and thereby to reduce possibility of USB wireless LAN adapter of being damaged or removed.
Abstract:
A disclosed managing apparatus and image forming apparatus management system ensure confidentiality of information in an image forming apparatus while usability is maintained. An image forming apparatus acquires IC card. identifying information with an IC card reader. A management server acquires a user ID associated with the acquired. IC card identifying information and use limit information concerning use of the image forming apparatus. A process is performed in the image forming apparatus in accordance with the use limit information.

Abstract:
A portable image capture device, program and method for controlling and managing data captured thereby. A device program residing on the portable image capture device generally associates data processing attributes with image files generated for image data captured by the portable image capture device. In some embodiments, the device program associates data processing attributes related to prompts for pre-defined image data with corresponding image files generated in response to the prompts. The device program, and attribute and prompt data therefor are created on a data processing system and are transferrable therefrom to the portable image capture device.
Abstract:
There is provided a method for restricting access to data stored on a memory card, whereby the restriction of access relates to what is able to be carried out to the data stored on the memory card during wireless communications with the memory card. Furthermore, there is also provided a memory card which is able to restrict access to data stored on it during wireless communications with it.
Abstract:
An apparatus and a method are arranged for generating a digital image. The apparatus comprises an image generation unit for generating the digital image having a first security module adapted for cryptographically linking a first secret unambiguously identifying the first security module, and securely deposited therein, with the digital image such that the integrity of the digital image can be ascertained using the result of this cryptographic linkage. Further, the apparatus comprises a portable data carrier which can be introduced into the apparatus. The portable data carrier is furnished with a second security module which is adapted for cryptographically linking a second secret unambiguously identifying the portable data carrier, and securely deposited therein, with the digital image such that the identity of the portable data carrier can be ascertained using the result of this cryptographic linkage.
Abstract:
An image forming apparatus which, when storing image data generated from a read original document in a connected detachable storage device, when the storage cannot be continued, associates the image data which is not stored with authentication information and stored the image data in a storage section included in the image forming apparatus. When a detachable storage device is newly connected, and authentication information is entered, the image forming apparatus determines whether image data associated with the entered authentication information is stored in the image forming apparatus. If it is determined that such image data is stored in the image forming apparatus, the image forming apparatus controls the stored image data to be stored in the newly-connected storage device. On the other hand, if it is not determined that such image data is stored in the image forming apparatus, the image forming apparatus controls the stored image data not to be stored in the newly-connected storage device.
