An apparatus, system, and method of transmitting original image data are disclosed. According to section size information, dividing information of the original image data is generated. The original image data is classified into multiple sets of original image data files using the dividing information. A plurality of section image data files are generated from the multiple sets of original image data files. The plurality of section image data files is transmitted to a destination apparatus according to the dividing information.

A network configuration file is generated at a host computer and downloaded to a digital camera. This file contains instruction information for communicating with a selected destination via a communications interface. The digital camera includes a “send” button or LCD icon which allows the user to easily transmit one or more images via a wired or wireless communications interface to a desired destination, which among other possibilities may be an Internet Service Provider or a digital photofinishing center. When the user selects this option, the communications port settings, user account specifics, and destination connection commands are read from the network configuration file on the removable memory card. Examples of these settings include serial port baud rate, parity, and stop bits, as well as account name and password.

An image communication apparatus includes: a first receiving unit that receives image data through a first communication method; a second receiving unit that receives image data through one kind or two or more kinds of second communication methods; a determining unit, when the image communication apparatus receives a call for receiving image data through the first communication method and the first communication unit cannot receive the image data since the first communication unit is used to receive other image data, determines one communication method out of the second communication methods according to a standard; and an informing unit that informs a caller about the determined second communication method and information indicating that the first communication unit cannot receive the image data specified by the call.

A universal serial bus (USB) device and a method of recognizing a USB mode whereby the USB device automatically recognizes a mass-storage or PictBridge mode according to a type of a connected host such that the USB device configures a communication interface suitable for the recognized host. The USB device includes: a controller to control a USB communication with the host; and an interface unit to automatically determine a mode of the USB communication, from among a plurality of modes, according to a type of the connected host, and to provide a communication interface in the determined mode corresponding to the host. Although the host connected to the USB device does not support several configuration descriptors, a timer of a mass-storage module switches a current mode to the USB mode suitable for a corresponding host, such that the USB device universally supports the USB multi-mode irrespective of host types.

A method, system, and computer program product for managing information used by a plurality of communication protocols to extract status information related to a monitored device among distinct devices communicatively coupled to a network. The method includes selecting a communication protocol among the plurality of communication protocols; retrieving, from a first memory, information for accessing the device using the selected communication protocol; and accessing the device using the selected communication protocol and the information retrieved from the first memory. In addition, a vendor-model support map, a protocol parameter map, and a status information map are maintained to allow for the efficient extraction of status information from monitored network devices using the plurality of communication protocols.

There is provided a data processing device having a plurality of functions including at least a print function of forming an image on a recording medium and a facsimile function of transmitting facsimile data. In facsimile-communicating an original when the Internet selection state in an operation unit is set to “automatic selection”, the original is communicated by selecting the e-mail-based Internet for an A4 original size, and the session-based Internet for a B4 or A3 original size. At the same time, the original information is transmitted in accordance with the transmission mode of its own apparatus, the encoding method determined based on the reception capability of a facsimile apparatus at a reception destination, and the receiving-side output original size and resolution.
Abstract:
A method and system for monitoring, controlling and diagnosing operation of a machine such as a business office machine including a facsimile machine, a copier, and a printer. When the speed of communication between the remote device and machine is not urgent, a connectionless mode of communication may be used. The form of connectionless communication is an electronic mail message transmitted over the Internet. However, when a condition needs urgent action, a direct connection is used for communication such as communication via a telephone or ISDN line. The information obtained from the machine is stored in one or more data bases within a company and information of the machine is shared between a service department, engineering and design department, manufacturing department, and marketing department. As communication over the Internet via electronic mail is not secure, the connectionless-mode messages transmitted using Internet electronic mail are encrypted.
