Abstract:
A process for improving the activity of a supported vanadium oxide catalyst used in the ammoxidation of aromatic hydrocarbons in a system where no oxygen is added, which comprises pretreating the catalyst under ammoxidation reaction conditions by contacting it with carbon monoxide. The invention also embodies the catalyst made by the process and an ammoxidation process using the improved catalyst.
Abstract:
This invention relates to novel liquid tertiary diamides having the following structural formula:
WHEREIN N O-10 R -(CH2)m-CH3 wherein M 4-12 One such diamide is N,N''-2,2,5,5-tetramethylhexamethylene-N,N''dimethylpelargonamide. The diamides have utility as heat transfer fluids and plasticizers.
Abstract:
A process for making aromatic carboxylic acids from aromatic nitriles which comprises hydrolyzing to equilibrium an aqueous solution of said nitriles without catalyst at 200* to 300*C in the presence of hydrolysis products of said nitrile, venting steam and ammonia vapors at about 200* to about 300*C under autogeneous pressure and separating free aromatic carboxylic acid from said solution.
Abstract:
In the process of separating terephthalonitrile from a gaseous ammoxidation product stream, the improvement which comprises cooling said hot product stream to a temperature above 150*C and below 165*C and separating solid crystals of high purity terephthalonitrile in high yield.
Abstract:
In order to increase the amount of catalytic metal which can be incorporated in a zeolite catalyst by contact of zeolite with solution of a given amount of chemical containing the catalytic metal, or conversely to reduce the amount of such chemical needed to incorporate a given desired amount of catalytic metal in the catalyst, a zeolite containing a cation, e.g., sodium, replaceable by ammonium ion, is contacted with an aqueous solution of ammonium metalate, e.g., molybdate, and a second ammonium compound, e.g., ammonium chloride, said second ammonium compound providing additional anion for balancing the change of said cation in the solution.
Abstract:
An apparatus for testing fluids for coefficient of traction between two rotating surfaces by measuring the thrust force at slip developed by a linear actuator due to traction between actuator drive shaft and rollers driven thereby.
Abstract:
EPIMERIC MIXTURES OF THE NOVEL LACTONE 3,6-DIHYDRO4,5-DIMETHYL-5-PHENYL-A-PYRONE MAY BE PREPARED BY REACTING HYDRATROPALDEHYDE WITH ACETALDEHYDE OR CROTONALDEHYDE. THESE COMPOUNDS ARE USEFUL IN V.I. STABILIZERS IN LUBE OILS, AND AS MONOMERS IN THE PREPARATION OF POLYESTERS. UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS A BY-PRODUCT COMPRISING A NOVEL LINEAR CONDENSATION PRODUCT, IDENTIFIED AS AN UNSATURATED AROMATIC ALDEHYDE, IS ALSO FORMED. THE RELATIVE PROPORTIONS OF THE NOVEL LACTONE AND UNSATURATED AROMATIC ALDEHYDES THAT ARE FORMED MAY BE CONTROLLED BY VARYING THE RATIO OF HYDRATROPALDEHYDE TO ACETALDEHYDE. THE USE OF CROTONALDEHYDE INSTEAD OF ACETALDEHYDE RESULTS IN THE FORMATION OF THE NOVEL LACTONE ALONE.
Abstract:
A PROCESS FOR PREPARING 2-PYRROLIDONE WHICH COMPRISES REACTING SUCCINIC ACID OR ITS PRECURSOR, HYDROGEN, AND AMMONIA IN A AQUEOUS SYSTEM AT A MOLE RATIO OF AMMONIA TO ACID OF 1.3:1 TO 1.7:1, AT A TEMPERATURE OF FROM ABOUT 250* C. TO ABOUT 275* C., AT A PRESSURE OF FROM ABOUT 1500 TO 2000 P.S.I.G., FOR A TIME OF ABOUT 1 TO 4 HOURS, AND IN THE PRESENCE OF A CATALYST OF RUTHENIUM.
Abstract:
A PROCESS FOR HYDROISOMERIZATION OF DIMETHYLNAPHTHALENES (DMN''S), OR OF HYDROGENATED DMN''S COMPRISES CONTACTING SAID DMN''S OR HYDROGENATED DMN''S WITH HYDROGEN (E.G., 15-15000 P.S.I.G.) IN THE PRESENCE OF A COMBINATION OF A HYDROGENATION CATALYST AND A CALCIUM CONTAINING ZEOLITE CATALYST (PERFERABLY IN THE RANGE OF 10-100% CRYSTALLINE AND OF THE FAUGASITE STRUCTURE) AT A TEMPERATURE IN THE RANGE OF 300-500*C. (PREFERABLY IN VAPOR PHASE) AND AT A LIQUID HOURLY SPACE VELOCITY IN THE RANGE OF 0.25-10 (PREFERABLY 0.5-3). THE PREFERRED CALCIUM CONTAINING ZEOLITE HAS AN ATOMIC RATIO AL/SI IN THE RANGE OF 0.35-1.0 IN TGE ALUMINO-SILICATE FRAMEWORK. THE MORE PREFERRED ZEOLITE ARE SYNTHETIC FAUJASITES HAVING AN AL/SI FRAMEWORK RATIO IN THE RANGE OF 0.35 TO 0.65 (E.G., LINDE TYPE Y). WHEN THE FEED COMPRISES AT LEAST ONE MEMBER FROM THE 2,6- OR 2,7-DMN FAMILIES THE PROCESS CAN PRODUCE ISOMERS BOTH WITHIN AND BETWEEN THE 2,6- AND 2,7-DMN FAMILIES.
