Abstract: The present disclosure relates generally to methods, devices and systems for insulation, e.g., of cavities associated with walls, ceilings, floors and other building structures, with foam insulation. In one aspect, the disclosure provides a method for providing a cavity of a building with an expanded foam insulation. The method includes dispensing an amount of an expanding foam insulation into the cavity, the expanding foam insulation being dispensable and expandable to provide the expanded foam insulation material, the expanding foam insulation material formed from a premix comprising at least one polyol, at least one polyisocyanate, a blowing agent, and an encapsulated catalyst, the encapsulated catalyst comprising a plurality of catalyst capsules, each comprising an amount of catalyst and a capsule shell encapsulating the catalyst, wherein the dispensing is performed to apply a force to the encapsulated catalyst sufficient to break capsules and release catalyst, the released catalyst initiating reaction between the at least one polyol and the at least one isocyanate; and then allowing the dispensed amount of expanding foam insulation to substantially finish expanding after it is dispensed in the cavity, thereby forming the expanded foam insulation in the cavity.

Abstract: A method for the synthesis of an auxetic polyurethane foam with a defined cell structure and an auxetic polyurethane foam substrate obtainable by a method according to the invention. The method includes mixing a polyol reagent and a foaming reagent, forming a reaction mixture, mixing an isocyanate with the reaction mixture, compressing and/or contracting the isocyanate/reaction mixture, and allowing the compressed and/or contracted isocyanate/reaction mixture to cure.

Abstract: Storage-stable two-component polyurethane or polyisocyanurate spray foam compositions are disclosed, said compositions comprising: (a) an A-side component comprising one or more polyisocyanate and one or more blowing agent; and (b) a B-side component comprising one or more polyol and one or more blowing agent comprising pressurized gaseous carbon dioxide and one or more liquid blowing agent; wherein both the A-side component and the B-side component, separately, generate less than 300 ppm of fluoride ion after one week of aging at 50° C.

Abstract: The present invention relates to polyester polyols made from aromatic polyacid sources such as thermoplastic polyesters. The polyols can be made by heating a thermoplastic polyester such as virgin polyethylene terephthalate, recycled polyethylene terephthalate, or mixtures thereof, with a glycol to give a digested intermediate which is then reacted with a digestible polymer, which can be obtained from various recycle waste streams. The polyester polyols comprise a glycol-digested polyacid source and a further digestible polymer. The polyester polyols provide a sustainable alternative to petrochemical or biochemical based polyester polyols.

Abstract: A foamed material includes 50 to 90 weight percent of a semicrystalline resin and 10 to 50 weight percent of a poly(phenylene ether). The semicrystalline resin can be one or more of a polyamide, a polyester, and a polyolefin. The foamed material has a density of 40 to 700 kilograms/meter3. It can be prepared by adding a blowing agent to a molten thermoplastic material containing the semicrystalline resin and the poly(phenylene ether), thereby forming a pre-foamed molten thermoplastic material, and extruding the pre-foamed molten thermoplastic material to form the foamed material. The foamed material is useful to form articles requiring solvent resistance.

Abstract: A foamable, insulating-layer-forming multi-component composition has at least one alkyoxysilane-functional polymer, at least one insulating-layer-forming fire-protection additive, a blowing-agent mixture, and a cross-linking agent. The at least one alkoxysilane-functional polymer contains, as terminal groups and/or as side groups along the polymer chain, alkoxy-functional silane groups of a formula —Si(R1)m(OR2)3-m. In this formula, R1 stands for a linear or branched C1-C16 alkyl moiety, R2 for a linear or branched C1-6 alkyl moiety and m for an integer from 0 to 2. The composition can be a foam-in-place foam or can be used for the manufacture of molded blocks.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method and system for supporting a pipeline in a trench. The disclosure is directed to the placement of urea-silicate sprayable or pumpable foams into trenches to provide pipeline pillow supports during placement of the pipeline and to form trench breakers in the trench prior to the trench being backfilled. The pillow supports and trench breakers inhibit erosion of the trench prior to and after being backfilled. The urea-silicate foam material has an open cell content of at least 50% to resist floatation, is non-flammable and electrically conductive. Also disclosed is use of supports for placement between the urea-silicate foam and the bottom of the trench to aid in utilization of the urea-silicate foams in cold weather conditions and in trenches with steeply sloped bottoms. Preferably the supports are biodegradable and electrically conductive when wet.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for applying a foamed mixture of paints on a structural surface. A continuous stream of high velocity gas moves through a nozzle and is directed toward the structural surface, and two or more paints may be intermittently moved into the gas stream of the nozzle and aerated and mixed with each other and moved with the gas stream to form a foam that is applied to the structural surface. The components of the foamed mixture may include single component or plural component materials such as polyurethane foam, adhesive, and polyurea formulations, and may be moved through a volumetric metering device consisting of material heaters, a heated hose, and an applicator gun. The nitrogen gas stream fluidizes the mixture as it passes through and out of the nozzle and forms the mixture into a foam that is applied to the structural surface.
