Abstract: A five valve per cylinder twin overhead cam internal combustion engine wherein the valve placement is such that the cam shafts may be located so as to directly operate the valves and still provide threaded fastener attachments that can be tightened when the cam shaft is in place. Abstract: A control valve arrangement for a three-valve-per-cylinder internal combustion engine that redirects the flow through a siamese-type intake passage when in its closed position so as to generate a higher velocity to the intake charge and redirect the flow so as to generate turbulence in the combustion chamber. Abstract: A valve train for internal combustion engines utilizing an inverted bucket tappet with a pivot structure operatively disposed between the tappet and the end of the valve stem allowing the valves to be angulated with respect to each other and to the axis of the cylinder in both the transversal and the horizontal planes of the engine. Accordingly on a multi-valve engine, the valves extend radially from the associated combustion chamber to open and increase space in the center of the cylinder head for spark plugs, injectors, or pre-combustion chambers and so that the combustion chamber can be designed with a hemispherical surface, with tangentially disposed valve heads. The construction allows the use of large valves in conjunction with stronger, better-cooled valve seats and bridges. The tappets can be actuated conventionally by direct-acting overhead camshafts or by rocker arms and "T" bridges.

Abstract: A lubrication arrangement for an engine and more particularly to an arrangement for lubricating the valve train of an engine. The valve train includes a cylinder head that journals an intake and an exhaust camshaft through bearings formed in the cylinder head and the cam cover. Hydraulic lash adjusters are associated with each of the camshafts and there are more intake adjusters than exhaust adjusters. An arrangement is provided for delivering lubricant to the lash adjusters and the camshaft journals which includes a passageway formed in the cam cover. Lubricant is delivered to the cylinder head in proximity to the intake adjusters so that the intake adjusters and the exhaust adjusters will receive lubricant at substantially the same pressure.

Abstract: An improved air spring arrangement for an internal combustion engine having three valves per cylinder which are disposed in surrounding relationship to a spark plug. The air spring arrangement is formed by a recess formed in the cylinder head that encompasses each of the valve stems and an insert piece that is inserted into this recess and which defines the bores for the respective air chambers. The supply and relief passages for the air chambers are formed in the insert piece by drilled passages which have a V-shaped configuration to provide a more compact assembly and a less complicated cylinder head arrangement.
