Abstract: Provided is an image forming apparatus that can accurately determine whether a manuscript is pencil writing. The image forming apparatus is a copier with a copy function that, after receiving a copy instruction, reads image data from a manuscript, and prints the read image data on printing paper according to set printing conditions. The copier includes a character extracing unit and a line width judgment unit. The character extracting unit extracts characters from each of a plurality of different locations in image data. The line width judgment unit determines whether or not a manuscript is pencil writing by comparing line widths of the characters that were extracted by the character extracting unit.

Thus, it is possible to prevent a USB wireless LAN adapter or the like from being used constantly connected to the front side USB socket and thereby to reduce possibility of USB wireless LAN adapter of being damaged or removed.

Abstract: According to the present invention, when a terminal apparatus is brought close to a printing apparatus serving as a processing apparatus, the terminal apparatus uses its own NFC unit to acquire, from the printing apparatus, information for communicating with each of one or more network connection units provided in the printing apparatus. Then, using a communication unit, the terminal apparatus then searches for the printing apparatus on a network in accordance with the acquired information. In the case where the terminal apparatus has successfully identified the printing apparatus as being present on the network, the terminal apparatus transmits a processing request to the printing apparatus successfully identified on the network via the communication unit.

Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes a lower casing, an upper casing, an arm, and a brake member. The lower casing includes a photosensitive body.
