Abstract: The composition includes an acrylic monomer having a carboxylic acid group, an acrylic monomer having a hydroxyl group, and a compound composed of divalent segments L and at least two X groups. The divalent segments L are represented by the formula
Each divalent segment L is respectively directly bonded to two secondary N atoms, two tertiary N atoms, or a secondary and a tertiary N atom. Each R1 represents an alkylene group having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and at least some of the R1 groups are —CH2—CH2—CH2—CH2—. Each X group is independently represented by the formula CH2═C(R)—C(O)—O—V-W—C(O)—. The acrylic monomer having a carboxylic acid group is present in an amount of at least 20 percent by weight, based on the total weight of acrylic-functional compounds. Articles and a method of using the composition are also described.-

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a polymeric material including a polymerized reaction product of a polymerizable composition including components and has a solids content of 90% or greater. The components include a uretdione-containing material including a reaction product of a diisocyanate reacted with itself; a first hydroxyl-containing compound; an optional second hydroxyl-containing compound having a single OH group, wherein; and an epoxy component. The first hydroxyl-containing compound has more than one OH group and the optional second hydroxyl-containing compound is a primary alcohol or a secondary alcohol. The present disclosure also provides a two-part composition, in which the polymeric material is included in the first part and the second part includes at least one amine. Further, a method of adhering two substrates is provided, including obtaining a two-part composition; combining at least a portion of the first part with at least a portion of the second part to form a mixture; disposing at least a portion of the mixture on a first substrate; and contacting a second substrate with the mixture disposed on the first substrate. The disclosure also provides a polymeric material and a method of making a two-part composition. Advantageously, two-part compositions according to the present disclosure can be used as coatings and adhesive systems with handling and performance similar to existing two-part urethane systems, but with less sensitivity to water.

Abstract: A composition is described comprising a ring opening metathesis polymerization catalyst or precatalyst thereof; and an unreactive dispersant having a viscosity at 25° C. of at least 10 Pa·sec at a shear rate of 1 1/sec. Also described is a cartridge (e.g. or a dispensing and mixing apparatus) comprising such composition. The cartridge typically comprises a first chamber comprising unpolymerized cyclic olefin; and a second chamber comprising the catalyst and dispersant. Also described are compositions including two-part compositions and methods of bonding a substrate.

Abstract: A method of making an adhesive is provided, including obtaining an actinic radiation-polymerizable adhesive precursor composition disposed against a surface of an actinic radiation-transparent substrate and irradiating a first portion of the actinic radiation-polymerizable adhesive precursor composition through the actinic radiation-transparent substrate for a first irradiation dosage. The method further includes irradiating a second portion of the actinic radiation-polymerizable adhesive precursor composition through the actinic radiation-transparent substrate for a second irradiation dosage. The first portion and the second portion are adjacent to or overlapping with each other and the first irradiation dosage and the second irradiation dosage are not the same. The method forms an integral adhesive having a variable thickness in an axis normal to the surface of the actinic radiation-transparent substrate. Also, an adhesive article is provided, including a substrate having a major surface and an integral adhesive disposed on the major surface of the substrate.

Abstract: An adhesive article comprising first and second tacky latent adhesive layers disposed on respective first and second opposed major surfaces of a substrate. Each of the first and second tacky latent adhesive layers independently comprises at least one polymerizable component, and a redox initiator system comprising a transition metal complex that participates in a redox cycle, an oxidizing agent, and a blocked reducing agent represented by the formula ((I). Each of R1 and R2 are independently H, an alkyl, an aryl, or RPhoto5 with the proviso that at least one of R1 and R2 is RPhoto. RPhoto represents a photoremovable group. Each of R3 and R4 independently represents H, an alkyl group, or an aryl group comprising a monovalent ester, ether, urethane, or carbonate group. Methods of making and using the adhesive articles are also disclosed.

Abstract: A two-part curable composition comprises a Part A and a Part B. The Part A composition includes polyuretdione having an average uretdione ring functionality of at least 1.2. Part B composition includes polythiol having an average sulfhydryl group functionality of at least 1.2. At least one of the Part A composition and the Part B composition may further comprise accelerator for addition of the polythiol to the polyuretdione. The accelerator comprises a basic salt having the formula M+Zb−x y wherein M+ is a cation having a single positive charge a, wherein a is 1, 2, or 3; Zb− is an oxide anion having a negative charge b−, wherein b is 1 or 2; and x and y are positive integers, wherein x equals y times b. Cured compositions, methods of making them and articles including them are also disclosed.

Abstract: Composite particles are provided that can be used to cure epoxy resins. More particularly, the composite particles have a porous polymeric core particle, a curing agent and/or a curing catalyst for an epoxy resin positioned within the porous polymeric core particle, and a fluoropolymer-containing coating layer around the porous polymeric core particle. Additionally, curable compositions are provided that are mixtures containing an epoxy resin and the composite particles. The epoxy resin typically does not react until the curable composition is heated causing the release of the curing agent and/or curing catalyst from the composite particle. Further, cured compositions formed from the curable composition are provided.
