Abstract: A device for assisting relocation of a handicapped individual, which device has a frame that is disposed between an individual and a surface underlying the individual to assist movement of the individual across the underlying surface. The frame has a first orientation in which the frame resides with the frame being used by the individual to engage the underlying surface and assist movement of the individual across the underlying surface. The device further includes an alarm system for causing a detectable signal to be produced as an incident of the frame being repositioned from the first orientation into a second orientation.

Abstract: A resuscitation device for automatic compression of victim's chest using a compression belt which exerts force evenly over the entire thoracic cavity. The belt is constricted and relaxed through a motorized spool assembly which repeatedly tightens the belt and relaxes the belt to provide repeated and rapid chest compression. An assembly includes various resuscitation devices including chest compression devices, defibrillation devices, and airway management devices, along with communications devices and senses with initiate communications with emergency medical personnel automatically upon use of the device.

Abstract: The invention is an apparatus for increasing intrathoracic pressure for resuscitating cardiac arrest patients. The apparatus comprises a flexible, substantially inelastic belt wrapped around the patient's chest and attached to a force converter. The force converter converts a downwardly directed force into a chestward resultant, which depresses the sternum, and two belt tightening resultants. The force converter comprises a pair of arm assemblies, each having a pair of spaced arms, which are pivotably mounted to a base. The base is positioned near the patient's sternum and the ends of the belt attach to one end of each arm assembly. The opposite, handle ends of the arm assemblies are depressed toward the chest causing tightening of the belt and compression of the chest cavity.

Abstract: In a bearing and support for use either as a bearing, per se, or as a bearinged support for other items and incorporating the bearing of this invention; the bearing includes at least a pair of rotatable members that rotate or counter-rotate about a common axis, a shaft supporting the rotatable members for rotation about its common axis; roller, ball, sleeve, or other forms of bearing disposed between the rotatable members and the shaft to facilitate the rotation of the members therearound; a structural member incorporating a series of keepers upon its upper and lower edges and which retain races or tracks, and being disposed for having one of the rotatable members associated thereon to provide a bearing suspended support for holding other items, or the body of a person. The bearinged support may be of a circular or of a nonannular design, to carry both radial and thrust loads, thereby increasing its various uses, which include, among other concepts, the application of the support for use in conjunction with gymnastic equipment, such as to provide safety during usage of the horizontal bar, balance beam, the trampoline, or even during tumbling, and in addition, the support has usage for facilitating the plight of the invalid. Furthermore, the invention can be used as a bearing to support both radial and thrust loads, can be used in cams, machinery, dollies, manufacturing transfer machines, conveyors, and safety equipment, among other items. A crossarm for movement along a track provides the overhead structure for holding the bearinged support at a variable or fixed disposition therebelow, as during use of the support for one of the aforesaid purposes. The structural member and its races of the support are separable, being held together by means of an adjustable bridging member, thereby advancing the state of the art by allowing the opening up of the bearing races and wrapping the assembly around the shaft, body or load, and by use of the adjustable bridge draw the assembly and load into continuous contact through a tightening and locking the bridge.

Abstract: An external heart massage apparatus having of a generally Ushaped frame which is detachably connected to either a base member or by means of adaptor clamps to the side rails of a stretcher, operating table, or the like. A plunger is reciprocally mounted on the frame, and a lever is operatively associated with the plunger whereby the displacement of the lever effects reciprocation of the plunger to impart the requisite external massage on the heart of a patient. Axial transmission of the force between the lever and the plunger is attained by a rolling type cam which is connected to the upper end of the plunger so as to be disposed in rolling engagement with the lever.

Abstract: An exoskeleton wheelchair system includes a base, one or more wheels coupled to the base, a body support connected to the base comprising: a back support; and one or more leg supports pivotally coupled to the back support, and a gait wheel linked with the one or more leg supports via one or more gait linkages and configured to rotate the one or more leg supports. The one or more leg supports are configured to pivot about a first axis when the back support is in a standing position mode.
