Abstract: A dispensing device and method for forming a least partially solid or gel-like material from a liquid. At least one liquid issuing from an outlet is subjected to an electric field causing the liquid to form at least one electrically charged jet which, after formation, forms a fiber (F) or breaks up into fiber fragments (FF) or particles (D). The thus formed at least partially solid or gel-like material may be directly deposited, by virtue of the energy in the electrical field, onto a surface area, for example an area of skin enabling, for example, formation of a dressing for a wound or burn which is of high specific area and extremely absorbent. A biologically active ingredient such as a pharmaceutical ingredient or biological matter such as DNA may be incorporated into the fibers (F), fragments (FF) or particles (D). Fibrils, particles or microcapsules incorporating a biologically active ingredient may be supplied for oral or nasal administration to an animal such as a human being.

Abstract: A dispense nozzle (10), having a narrow oblong orifice (14), is positioned over and near the surface of the substrate (22), close to the edge of the substrate. While the substrate is rotating, the nozzle dispenses fluid through the narrow oblong orifice onto the substrate surface, starting from near the outer edge (24) moving toward the substrate's rotational center (26). The narrow oblong orifice may have lips of unequal size to help direct fluid flow. A controlled rate of acceleration is maintained for the rate of translation of the nozzle across the substrate surface. Once the nozzle approaches the substrate's rotational center, the nozzle is raised to a higher height above the surface of the substrate while continuing to dispense fluid. Then the dispense stream of fluid is terminated, and the substrate is rapidly accelerated to a predetermined spin speed to evenly distribute the fluid over the surface of the substrate to a uniform film of desired thickness.

Abstract: A spout for providing a flow of water in the form of a sheet is disclosed. Water from a supply pipe is diverted orthogonally in two directions as it enters a reservoir inside the spout. Water pooled in the reservoir spills over a weir to form a sheet-shaped flow stream as it flows down the weir. The weir has a raised center section which helps define a flow chamber to promote and develop a stream which maintains a sheet shape even relatively great distances from the spout.

Abstract: A nozzle for directing a flow of lubricant particles vertically downwardly onto the surface of a disc moving horizontally across the discharge opening of the nozzle includes a pair of side plates which are secured together by end plates to form an enclosure having a narrow discharge opening at the bottom edge. The side plates are substantially in the form of isoceles trapezoids having a bottom edge wider than its top edge and having the end plates extending between the nonparallel edges of the side plates. An inlet port is connected to the top edges of the plates. The side plates have on their inner surfaces adjacent their bottom edges a groove which extends along the bottom edges to the end plates. The grooves are adapted to catch any lubricant which flows down the inner surfaces of the side plates and direct such lubricant to the ends of the discharge opening where the lubricant can drip from the nozzle.

Abstract: A water spray nozzle for removing paint particles from air exhausted from a paint spray booth. The nozzle has an inlet and an outlet and at least two orifices therebetween which are of progressively diminishing size in a direction toward the outlet.
