Abstract:
The present invention is directed to a stable, soluble, antimicrobial composition concentrate comprising pyrithione or a pyrithione complex in an amount of from about 0.5% to about 30 weight percent, a zinc source in an amount of from about 0.1% to about 10%, and an organic amine component in an amount of from about 30% to about 80%, said percents being based upon the total weight of the composition concentrate. The invention is also directed to methods of controlling the growth of free-living microorganisms or biofilms using the antimicrobial composition of the invention, and products made using the antimicrobial composition of the invention.
Abstract:
The production of solid lubricant agglomerates by combining solid lubricant powder, an inorganic binder, other fillers if optionally desired, and a liquid to form a mixture, and driving off the liquid to form dry agglomerates which are subsequently classified by size or milled and classified by size to yield agglomerates of a desired size range. These agglomerates are then treated to stabilize the binder, thereby strengthening the binder and rendering it nondispersible in the liquid. The undesired size ranges can be readily recycled because the agglomerates with untreated binder can be reprocessed, thereby promoting high recovery rates.
Abstract:
A grease composition for a precision instrument comprising a lithium soap grease or a urea grease, and an anti-wear agent, wherein the lithium soap grease and the urea grease are each a grease having no hydroxyl group in a molecule, and the anti-wear agent is contained in an amount of 0.1 to 20% by weight based on the total amount of the grease composition. By the use of the grease composition for a sliding mechanism of a precision instrument such as a watch, an appropriate slip torque can be obtained, and the precision instrument such as a watch can operate stably.
Abstract:
A method for providing lubricity in fuels and lubricants includes adding a boron compound to a fuel or lubricant to provide a boron-containing fuel or lubricant. The fuel or lubricant may contain a boron compound at a concentration between about 30 ppm and about 3,000 ppm and a sulfur concentration of less than about 500 ppm. A method of powering an engine to minimize wear, by burning a fuel containing boron compounds. The boron compounds include compound that provide boric acid and/or BO3 ions or monomers to the fuel or lubricant.
Abstract:
Disclosed are additive compositions for transmission oils comprising an oil dispersion of a hydrated alkali metal borate and an oil dispersion of hexagonal boron nitride, as well as lubricating oil compositions containing the same.
Abstract:
According to the invention there is provided a liquid friction control composition characterized as either having a high and positive friction characteristic or a low and neutral friction characteristic, comprising a retentivity agent. The liquid friction control composition may also comprise other components such as a solid lubricant, a wetting agent, a consistency modifier, and a preservative. The liquid friction control compositions may be used to modify the interfacial friction characteristics in sliding and rolling-sliding contact such as steel wheel-rail systems including mass transit and freight systems.
Abstract:
This invention relates to novel water soluble metal working fluid compositions, their use to work metal, a process for working metal using such compositions and the metal worked article of manufacture. More particularly, this invention relates to fluid compositions useful in cutting, grinding, shaping and other metal working operations which require a lubricant. The terms “first Group A” and “second Group B” are used herein to denote different groups and not to indicate any sequence of use or selection as any possible combination or sequence of use of a component(s) is envisioned without limit of any kind. The disclosed fluid compositions are also anticorrosive and environmentally more acceptable than current oil based fluids. There has now been discovered an essentially odorless, substantially non-oil misting, water-soluble metal working fluid comprising at least one component selected from a first Group A herein and optionally one or more components selected from a second Group B herein preferably with the balance of the composition being water and other (optional) minor ingredients. When a component is employed from Group A and a component is employed from Group B the action of the combination generally enhances performance of the resulting combination with contain moieties from both Group A and Group B.
Abstract:
In order to free a seized valve, an inspection port is formed in a wall of the valve body and the areas where the valve is seized are determined. One or more injection ports are formed in the valve body adjacent to the seized portions of the valve, pressurized fluid (preferably an insoluble lubricant having a very high cone penetration) is injected through the or each injection port and the injection ports are then closed.
Abstract:
Lubricant compositions comprises a lubricant base oil and one or more compounds resulting the modification of a succinimide represented by formula (1) or (2) 1 wherein R1 and R2 may be the same or different and are each independently a hydrocarbon group having 8 to 30 carbon atoms, R3 and R4 may be the same or different and are each independently a hydrocarbon group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, R5 is hydrogen or a hydrocarbon group having 1 to 30 carbon atoms, n is an integer from 1 to 7. The lubricant compositions have a long-lasting anti-shudder property, an enhanced transmission capacity for a wet clutch, and an excellent shifting property.
Abstract:
Disclosed are dispersed hydrated potassium borate compositions, as well as additive packages and finished oil compositions comprising the same. The dispersed hydrated potassium borate compositions of the invention exhibit low turbidity and the finished oil compositions exhibit improved wear performance under high temperature conditions.
