A carpet carrying a deodorant that is resistant to washing and wear and thus capable of maintaining its deodorizing function for a long time without impairing the drape and tint of the carpet. The carpet has a backing layer and a fiber layer formed on one side of the backing layer. A deodorant is carried partially on the backing layer and partially on the fiber layer with the weight ratio of the deodorant carried on the fiber layer to the deodorant carried on the backing being 50:50 to 5:95.

The present invention is directed at a carpet which comprises a) yarn tufted into a primary backing, wherein the primary backing has a face side and a back side and wherein the yarn is adhesively attached to the primary backing; b) a woven secondary backing with a first side and a second side wherein the first side is directly or indirectly attached to the back side of the primary backing; and c) a thermoplastic polymer layer adjacent to the second side of the secondary backing, wherein the polymer layer is attached to the secondary backing via melt bonding. The present invention is also directed at a method of manufacturing a carpet including: tufting a yarn into a primary backing, wherein the primary backing has a face side and a back side; adhesively affixing the yarn to the primary backing; providing a woven secondary backing having a first side and a second side; attaching directly or indirectly the first side of the secondary backing to the back side of the primary backing; and applying a thermoplastic polymer layer to the second side of the secondary backing under conditions suitable to melt bond the thermoplastic polymer layer to the secondary backing.

A composite elastic layer, which has improved resistance to shear force and functions both as a cushioning material and as a sound proof material, is comprised of a loop pile tufted fabric, which is made from a backing fabric and a plurality of loop piles. An elastomer composition is applied to the pile stratum of the loop pile tufted fabric. The elastomer composition infiltrates into voids between fibers of the loop pile, and forms a solid skin on the fibers of the loop pile. The composite elastic layer reinforces the elastic property of the loop pile, and on the other hand, the fiber of the loop pile also reinforces the tensile strength, especially the resistance to tearing, of the solid skin.

A manufacturing method for a laminated sheet comprises:coating a backing coating material on a base fabric (A) which is made of a material having a thermal deformation temperature of at least 150.degree. C., the backing coating material comprising(a) a resin aqueous emulsion and(b) 150-170 parts by weight of expandable styrene resin particles per 100 parts by weight of solids of the resin aqueous emulsion (a);stacking a base fabric (B) which is made of a material having a thermal deformation temperature of at least 150.degree. C. on the layer of backing coating material to form a laminate;compressing the laminate from at least one side so as to impregnate base fabric (B) with a portion of the coating material; andexpanding the expandable styrene resin particles and drying the resin aqueous emulsion by heating to a temperature which is higher than the softening point of the resin of the expandable styrene resin particles and which is lower than the thermal deformation temperature of base fabrics (A) and (B), thereby expanding the expandable styrene resin particles and forming a foam layer between base fabrics (A) and (B).

A thin tough glossy surface may be applied to a flexible substrate in a one step process comprising: applying an aqueous thin film of a compound of a polymer to an endless carrier belt made of a material having a low adhesion to said polymer, contacting the flexible substrate and coated carrier belt and keeping them together while they pass around a hot drum laminator at a temperature of from about 100.degree. to about 150.degree. C.The process is suitable for applying impermeable surfaces to non wovens, and foam backed carpet.

A heat-shrinkable backing material, which preferably is a spun-bonded polyolefin backing material, is tufted with a relatively heat stable yarn and the tufted backing is subjected to a temperature of not less than 300.degree. F. The applied temperature induces the tufted backing to shrink, thereby increasing the tuft density by not less than about 130% so as to produce an unbacked, densely tufted carpet tile. A secondary backing is then applied to provide a stable structure.
Abstract:
An improved woven synthetic textile fabric is formed by using an entangled combination of a fibrillated slit film yarn and a multi-filament yarn as at least one of the warp and fill members. The fabric is characterized by the look and feel of a jute fabric and may be employed as a woven cloth to manufacture bags, bale wrap, wall covering, drapes and the like or, preferably, to produce secondary backing fabric for tufted carpets which exhibits enhanced adhesion characteristics as compared to prior art synthetic secondary backing materials.
