Abstract:
Rust of ferrous metal surfaces that are in contact with gasohol or alcohol fuels is inhibited by the addition of a corrosion inhibiting amount of the combination of (A) a substituted imidazoline and (B) an alkenyl succinimide of a mixture of alkylenepolyamines.
Abstract:
Coupled polyamine additives for lubricants, fuels and functional fluids have been discovered. The coupled polyamines are prepared by the cyclization reaction of at least one reactant polyamine reactant with at least one hydrocarbyl polynitrile. This coupled polyamine may be further reacted with a hydrocarbyl carboxylic acid or derivative thereof, a hydrocarbyl phenolic reactant or mixtures thereof to provide an additive having greater oil solubility as well as imparting disperancy and VI improvement.
Abstract:
Poly (C.sub.5 -C.sub.9 lactone) modified Mannich base adducts are made by reacting a C.sub.5 -C.sub.9 lactone, an amine, an aldehyde, an N-hydroxyarylamine, and a hydrocarbyl substituted C.sub.4 -C.sub.10 monounsaturated dicarboxylic acid producing material, e.g., a polyisobutenyl succinic anhydride, which, in turn, preferably is made by reacting a polymer of a C.sub.2 to C.sub.10 monoolefin, preferably polyisobutylene, having a molecular weight of about 700 to 10,000 with a C.sub.4 to C.sub.10 monounsaturated acid, anhydride or ester, preferably maleic anhydride, such that there are about 0.7 to 2.00 dicarboxylic acid producing moieties per molecule of said olefin polymer used in the reaction mixture. The resulting adducts are useful per se as oil soluble dispersant additives. They are also useful in fuel and lubricating oil compositions, as well as in concentrates and additive packages.
Abstract:
There are disclosed macrocyclic and polycyclic polyamine lubricating oil additives formed by cyclodehydration of reaction products of hydrocarbon substituted succinic anhydrides or carboxylic acids with poly 3-amino propyl compounds or by acylation of macrocyclic polyamines and polycyclic polyamines with hydrocarbon substituted succinic anhydride or carboxylic acids. These compounds are useful as dispersants and dispersants-V.I. improvers in both gasoline and diesel engine lubricating oil compositions and are also useful fuel additives.
Abstract:
Disclosed are additives which are useful as dispersants in lubricating oils, gasolines, marine crankcase oils and hydraulic oils. In particular, disclosed are additives prepared by first reacting a polyamine with a cyclic carbonate followed by reaction of this intermediate with an alkenyl or alkyl succinic anhydride.
Abstract:
3-alkoxy-1 diamines are reacted with a carboxylic acid. The reaction product is further reacted with an inorganic base such as calcium oxide. The product obtained is an additive useful in gasoline to inhibit intake valve deposits and as a dispersant in lubricating compounds.
Abstract:
The reduction of octane requirement in a spark ignition, internal combustion engine is achieved by introducing with the combustion intake charge a fuel and/or lubricant composition containing an octane requirement reduction amount of a compound represented by the formula: ##STR1## where R, R' and R" are hydrocarbyl groups having from 1 to 3 carbon atoms.
Abstract:
A novel fuel composition contains ethanol or gasohol plus, as a corrosion inhibitor, a reaction product of benzotriazole, formaldehyde, and an N-alkyl propylene diamine.
Abstract:
