Abstract: A light detector includes a substrate, a membrane disposed on a surface of the substrate, a first and a second electrode post supporting the membrane. The first electrode post includes a first main body portion having a tubular shape spreading from a first electrode pad toward a side opposite to the substrate, and a first flange portion provided in an end portion at the side opposite to the substrate in the first main body portion. The first flange portion is provided with a first sloped surface inclined so as to approach the substrate as it goes away from the first main body portion. A first wiring layer reaches an inner surface of the first main body portion through the first sloped surface. The second electrode post and the second wiring layer are formed similarly to the first electrode post and the first wiring layer.

Abstract: A light detection device includes an APD, a plurality of temperature compensation diodes, and a circuit unit. The plurality of temperature compensation diodes have different breakdown voltages lower than a breakdown voltage of the APD. The circuit unit puts any one of the plurality of temperature compensation diodes into a breakdown state. The circuit unit includes a plurality of terminals and a terminal. The plurality of terminals are respectively connected to electrodes of the mutually different temperature compensation diodes. The terminal is electrically connected to the APD and electrodes of the temperature compensation diodes.

Abstract: A system for determining the profile of a laser beam includes a detector having a thermochromic liquid crystal film (TLCF) in thermal communication with a heat spreader and a thermoelectric cooler. The liquid crystal film has a thermochromic response such that heating of the film by a received laser beam creates a detectable color response at the film. The system also includes an image sensor and a controller configured to output an operating current for the TEC and receive images from the sensor. The system can selectively vary the temperature set point of the TEC to change the steady state temperature of the TLCF to examine the full intensity profile of the received beam even when the temperature response bandwidth of the TLCF is too narrow to display the full beam profile in a single color spot.

Abstract: A system, apparatus and method of improved measurement of the SPF factor of sunscreen compositions. In one embodiment, a method of measuring the protection of a sunscreen composition includes exposing skin to a known intensity of light, measuring the amount of remitted light from the skin, applying sunscreen to the skin, exposing the skin to which the sunscreen has been applied the known intensity of emitted light of the spectrum of light from which the sunscreen is intended to protect the skin, measuring the amount of light remitted from the skin, and calculating a UltraViolet-A Protection Factor (UVA-PF) of the sunscreen by comparing the amount of light remitted from the skin with the sunscreen to the amount of light remitted from the skin without the sunscreen.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, for a light-to-frequency sensor conversion. In some implementations, a first output waveform is generated from a light signal, a frequency of the first output waveform being based on an intensity of the light signal, including integrating the light signal across multiple clock cycles. In response to receiving a notification, a hold operation is performed to stop integrating the light signal for a period of time. In response to an end of the hold operation, a second output waveform is generated that includes integrating the intensity of the light signal starting from the end of the hold operation over a count of the multiple clock cycles that start after the end of the hold operation by a delay amount. The first output waveform and the second output waveform are summed to determine the intensity of the light signal.
