Abstract:
For HID lamps, and particularly high-pressure sodium-mercury HID lamps, the electron-emissive material portion of the lamp electrodes is a solid solution of dibarium calcium tungstate and dibarium calcium molybdate wherein the molar ratio of tungstate to molybdate is from 9:1 to 1:9. Emissive properties of the electrode are good and vapor pressure of emissive material is low.
Abstract:
A display panel includes a base plate and face plate having internal electrodes connected to contact pads disposed along an edge of the panel. The base plate and face plate are spaced apart along said edge of the panel so that flexible terminals or pins can be inserted therebetween to make contact with the contact pads and to connect the internal panel electrodes to external circuitry. The panel includes means for mechanically supporting all of the leads and for cementing the leads to the support member, thus providing a rigid lead assembly which can be handled with ease by a user.
Abstract:
Electric discharge lamps having a ceramic lamp vessel and current leadthroughs of niobium or tantalum cannot be operated in a nitrogen-containing atmosphere or in air due to attack of the current leadthroughs by the surrounding gas.According to the invention, those parts of the current leadthroughs which during operation have a temperature of more than 500.degree. C and more than 350.degree. C, respectively, are screened from the surrounding gas by means of ceramic mouldings which are connected to the current leadthrough in a gas-tight manner by means of sealing material. As a result of this the lamps according to the invention can be operated in a nitrogen-containing atmosphere and in air respectively.
Abstract:
A gas discharge display screen with a self-scanning function is described herein. All the electrodes are positioned coplanary on a single surface of a rear insulating plate. First and second pluralities of parallel electrodes connected respectively independently accomplish respectively the scanning and displaying functions. A third plurality of parallel electrodes perpendicular to the first and second pluralities of electrodes cooperates with a particular electrode for preionizing the first gas cells of the matrix screen lines.
Abstract:
A three-phase discharge lamp is proposed the bulb of which comprises four main electrodes forming three discharge gaps disposed in sequence along the axis of the bulb. In such a lamp, luminous substance is extended along the lamp axis and may be practically of any desired shape with the same luminous intensity throughout the length of the lamp.
Abstract:
The tubular ceramic discharge vessel of electric discharge lamps is sealed according to the invention with a cylindrical and an annular ceramic moulding between which a tubular current leadthrough member is accommodated consisting of tungsten, molybdenum, rhenium or alloys thereof. The current leadthrough member is connected in a vacuum-tight manner to the two ceramic mouldings by means of sealing ceramic.
Abstract:
Outer molybdenum current conductors of electric lamps having quartz glass lamp envelopes and pinched seals have a corrosion-resistant metal coating. The current conductors have been ground bare at the end which is welded to a molybdenum foil incorporated in the pinched seal.As a result of this it is achieved that the current conductors do not corrode, that the welding electrode upon making the connection to the foil does not stick to the coating, and that upon making the pinched seal the electric contact between the foil and the current conductor is not interrupted.
Abstract:
The display panel includes a base plate which carries a plurality of pairs of scanning cathodes and display cathodes, oriented in columns, and insulating spacers which, in each pair, separate the scanning and display cathodes into operative pairs, with the pairs being arrayed in rows and columns. The panel also includes a face plate which carries a plurality of anode strips, oriented in rows, each strip overlaying and having a portion in operative relation with a row of scanning and display cathode pairs. In each pair of cathodes, only the display cathode is visible to a viewer. The face plate and base plate are sealed together to form an envelope which is filled with a gas suitable for supporting cathode glow.
Abstract:
A gas discharge display panel for efficiently reproducing a color picture having high brightness and high definition. The display panel comprises a plurality of picture elements arranged in matrix. Each picture element is formed by a set of three discharge units reproducing red, green and blue light respectively. Each discharge unit is coupled to a hollow cathode. The hollow cathode of a suitable size is divided into two portions, i.e., a set of display hollow cathodes each of which forms main part of the discharge unit, and a scanning hollow cathode which couples the set of display hollow cathodes and operates for obtaining preparatory discharge. Said two portions of the hollow cathode are jointly operated so as to obtain a large discharge current supply at low voltage and in a small surface area. Thus a practical gas discharge display panel having high density discharge unit arrangement is realized and which is able to increase the luminance by about several tens of per cent more than the conventional one and also being able to be assembled in a simple manner by simplifying the panel construction with unified parts.
Abstract:
A gas discharge display panel including reservoir cells for providing ionizable gas and a plurality of gas discharge display memory cells. Included are a plurality of addressing electrodes each having a plurality of apertures therethrough, the electrodes being arranged in superposed configuration so that the apertures align to form gas conductive channels extending from the reservoir cells to the display memory cells. The addressing electrodes are adapted for connection to sources of selectable electrical potential whereby gas discharge columns are extended from the reservoir cells through selected channels thereby igniting gas discharges in selected display memory cells.
