The invention relates to compositions for producing coatings containing dialkylether as an additive, said type of coatings and to the use of dialkylethers in coatings, in particular a novel paint and lacquer additive based on dialkylether as a component of said compositions, said additive improving the resistance to abrasion, chemical resistance and mechanical properties to the lacquer system without changing the colour metrics and reactivity.

The present application is directed to an article comprising a dusty surface and a coating on the dusty surface comprising a coating polymer having a Tg less −20° C. and a method of reducing dust. In some embodiments, the polymer has a Tg less than −30° C., and in specific embodiments, the polymer has a Tg less than −45° C. The dusty surface may be, for example, crushed stone, coal, iron ore, gravel, sand or other aggregates (e.g. a roofing granule,) or a soil surface.Generally, the coating polymer comprises a polyacrylate, polyurethane, synthetic and natural rubber, silicone and other organic polymers. In specific embodiments, the coating polymer comprises an acrylic emulsion polymer.

Cellulose mixed esters are disclosed having low molecular weights and low degrees of polymerization. These new cellulose mixed esters include cellulose acetate propionate and cellulose acetate butyrate. The esters exhibit solubility in a wide range of organic solvents with minimal viscosity increase, are compatible with a wide variety of resins, and are useful in coatings and inks compositions as binder resins and rheology modifiers.

A heterocycle-containing aromatic compound represented by the formula: A-B, and an electrically conductive polymer obtained by oxidative polymerization of the heterocycle-containing aromatic compound as a monomer are provided. In the above formula, A represents a substituted or unsubstituted thiophene ring group, or a substituted or unsubstituted pyrrole ring group; B represents a substituted or unsubstituted hydrocarbon aromatic ring group, a substituted or unsubstituted thiophene ring group, or a substituted or unsubstituted pyrrole ring group; the ring represented by A and the ring represented by B are directly linked; however, A and B represent structures that are different from each other. The compound can be produced by a coupling reaction using a hypervalent iodine reactant.

Carboxyalkylcellulose esters are disclosed having relatively low degrees of polymerization. These new carboxyalkylcellulose esters include carboxymethylcellulose acetate, carboxymethylcellulose acetate propionate, and carboxymethylcellulose acetate butyrate. The inventive esters exhibit solubility in a range of organic solvents, and are useful in coatings and ink compositions as binder resins and rheology modifiers.

The invention relates to anisotropic, reflective, magnetic flakes. In a liquid carrier and under influence of an external magnetic field, the flakes attract to one another side-by-side and form ribbons which provide higher reflectivity to a coating and may be used as a security feature for authentication of an object.
