Abstract:
A detachable orthopedic sling for treatment of a user's spine is provided. The detachable orthopedic sling includes first and second adjustable sections, first and second handholds, and a strap. The first and second adjustable sections permit adjustment of their respective lengths. The first and second adjustable sections extend from one or more attachment rings to the first and second handholds. The strap permits adjustment of its length and may be positioned by a user around his torso, under his arms, and across his back. The detachable orthopedic sling may be mechanically coupled to a support structure using the attachment rings and allows the user to hang from the sling to provide traction treatment of the user's spine.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for exerting forces on a body, including a support structure defining a space and a plurality of surface contacting units that are configured to exert force upon the body, such that the weight is distributed away from the primary weight bearing regions to non-weight bearing regions of the body, or vice versa, without exerting significant shear or frictional forces on surfaces of the body. The systems and methods may be used to exert forces to cause fluid shift in different compartments of the body. Applications include treatment of various disease conditions including pressure ulcers, heart failure, high blood pressure, preeclampsia, osteoporosis, injuries of spine and to slow microgravity-induced bone and muscle loss. The systems and methods may be used to simulate gravity, weightlessness or buoyancy, in rehabilitation medicine. The system may include a chair, bed, a wearable suit or an exoskeleton.
Abstract:
An acupressure device for promoting healing includes a plate having a frame, a vertical center plane and independently moving left and right wings attached to the frame. Three horizontal pairs of acupressure protrusions are affixed on the left and right wings, each protrusion affixed equal-distant from the vertical center plane. A fourth horizontal pair of acupressure protrusion is affixed to a bottom portion of the frame, both protrusions affixed equal-distant from the vertical center plane. Finally, a fifth horizontal pair of acupressure protrusions is affixed on the left and right wings and positioned vertically between a lowest and a second lowest pair of the first four pairs of protrusions and is centered about the vertical center plane at a horizontal distance greater than a horizontal distance of the first four pairs of protrusions.
Abstract:
An item of headwear with a vibratory structure disposed within the headwear item, the vibratory structure including a first vibratory element, an actuation control, either or both of a power source and an operable retainer for a power source, and one or more electrically conductive lines operably coupling the first vibratory element, the actuation control, and either or both of the power source and the operable retainer for a power source. Additionally, a method for therapeutically applying vibration to the head of a human subject with Tourette syndrome, or alternatively a migraine headache, includes disposing upon the head of a human subject. a headwear item configured with an operable vibratory structure, and actuating the vibrator structure, upon the occurrence of, or anticipated occurrence of, one or more events having particular relevance to a human subject with Tourette syndrome or with a migraine headache.
Abstract:
A device for rebalancing the pelvis, has first and second support elements and a base, wherein the support elements are such that in a position of use for an individual standing on the base the support element is situated underneath a large part of the arch of the foot in such a way that the arch is raised above its usual position. Feedback signals indicate to a user the correct position of the feet and correct performance of a training and rebalancing routine.
Abstract:
A speech therapy device configured to be placed in a mouth of a speaker. The speech therapy device includes a first bite plate and a second bite plate disposed opposite the first bite plate. The speech therapy device further includes at least one connecting member disposed between the first bite plate and the second bite plate. A method for using the speech therapy device is also provided.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a rehabilitation device using a walking assistance device (1) having an actuator which generates and provides torque to a lower limb joint of a wearer wearing the walking assistance device (1), comprising a floor reaction force pattern storing unit (330) configured to store a reference floor reaction force pattern; a control target floor reaction force setting unit (340) for determining a control target floor reaction force based on the floor reaction force pattern stored in the floor reaction force pattern storing unit (330); a target torque calculating unit (350) for calculating a target torque of the actuator to achieve the control target floor reaction force determined by the control target floor reaction force setting unit (340); and an actuator output controller (150) for controlling output of the actuator such that the actuator generates a torque matching the target torque calculated by the target torque calculating unit (350); wherein the floor reaction force that the wearer receives is increased and decreased by the application of torque generated by the actuator.
Abstract:
A headband for the treatment of headaches and the like consists of a length of elasticized fabric with hook and loop separable fasteners at its ends for adjustable pressured securement about a user's head. A mask for the user's eyes is detachable secured to the band. A pocket in the band as well as a pocket in the eye mask are adapted to receive a bag of granules that focuses the pressure of the band on a selected area of the head or hot and cold packs, scent packets or magnet strips.
Abstract:
An acupressure appliance includes: (a) a pair of curved rod-like pressure units each including a solid or hollow structure in an entire or partial manner, each including a convex-curved segment of a chevron shape curved continuously in an axial direction, each formed in a longitudinal shape in the axial direction and formed in a shape having a curved upper side projected upward in cross section in a lateral direction perpendicular to the axial direction, the pair of curved rod-like pressure units spaced apart from each other in the lateral direction; and (b) a connector connecting the pair of curved rod-like pressure units in the lateral direction.
Abstract:
An insertion apparatus for use in a vaginal or rectal cavity or a vaginal or rectal opening of the human body. The insertion apparatus has a base body, which in turn has a working body. In addition, a pulling device used for removing the working body from the cavity or the opening is firmly mounted on the base body. The pulling device is formed by a finger grip that is elastically formed, at least in part. The finger grip is elastically deformable between a neutral position and a removal position, and the finger grip is made, at least in part, of an elastic material. The insertion apparatus may in particular be configured as a massage apparatus or as a tampon.
