Abstract: A control system of a dual power supply type electrolyzer includes an electrolyzer, a first power supply circuit, and a second power supply circuit. The electrolyzer includes a first electrode and a second electrode. The first power supply circuit connected to the first electrode. The second power supply circuit connected to the second electrode. The first power supply circuit and the second power supply circuit simultaneously supply power respectively to the first electrode and the second electrode. The first electrode and the second electrode have a same amount of power, but the first electrode and the second electrode have different polarities and their polarities alternate periodically.

Abstract: An electrochemical cell including a first chamber having an anode, a second chamber having a cathode, at least one ionic connection between the first chamber and the second chamber, such that liquid electrolyte from the first chamber is prevented from mixing with liquid electrolyte in the second chamber is provided. The first chamber and the second chamber can be arranged in parallel and positioned remotely from each other. An electrochemical system including the electrochemical cell, and first and second sources of saline aqueous solutions is also provided. Water treatment systems are also provided. A method of operating an electrochemical cell including introducing first and second saline aqueous solutions into first and second chambers of the electrochemical cell, and applying a current across the anode and the cathode to generate first and second products, respectively is also provided. A method of facilitating operation of an electrochemical cell is also provided.

Abstract: An electrolyzed water generating device 1 has an electrolysis chamber 40, a first feeding body 41 and a second feeding body 41 to which a DC voltage is applied, a diaphragm 43 disposed between the first feeding body 41 and the second feeding body 42 to divide the electrolysis chamber 40 into a first-polar chamber 40a and a second-polar chamber 40b, a control unit 5 for switching a polarity of the first feeding body 41 to an anode or a cathode and a polarity of the second feeding body 42 to a cathode or an anode, a flow rate sensor 22 detecting an amount of flowing water into the electrolysis chamber 40 on the cathode side per unit time, and a current detecting means 44 detecting a DC current supplied to the first feeding body 41 and the second feeding body 42. The surfaces of the first feeding body 41 and the second feeding body 42 are formed of a hydrogen storage metal. The control unit 5 calculates a concentration of hydrogen storage metal colloid based on the DC current and an integrated value of the amount of flowing water after switching the polarities.

Abstract: An adaptive electrokinetic dewatering system for dewatering slurry and soil deposits, including tailings deposits and a control system therefor. The control system automatically determines an optimal applied power specification, including sets of power parameters to be applied to the deposit being dewatered and when to apply each set of power parameters during the electrokinetic dewatering process. Furthermore, the control system automatically adjusts the applied power specification throughout the course of the dewatering process to account for the changing properties of the deposit. The control system determines the applied power specifications and adjustments to be made to them by simulating the electrokinetic dewatering process using a simulator which incorporates the latest measurements of the electrical, physical and chemical properties of the deposit being dewatered. The control system uses the simulator to forecast the dewatering performances of alternative applied power specifications and selects and applies the alternative applied power specification having a forecast dewatering performance that satisfies one or more switching criteria set by an operator.

Abstract: A method for heating a liquid in a heater having a heating element and a counter electrode includes the acts of (i) heating the liquid in the heater by heating the heating element to a temperature in the range of 120-250° C., and (ii) applying an AC potential difference between the heating element and the counter electrode. The AC potential difference varies with an AC frequency in the range of 200-2500 Hz and has an amplitude in the range of 1-5 V, and the liquid flows in the heater between the heating element and the counter electrode.

Abstract: A plant for treatment of a waste water stream comprising fat includes pre-treatment apparatus for removal of liquid oil and gross contaminants, a flow-through assembly for electrocoagulation treatment of a liquid, a floc-separation apparatus arranged for removal of a flocculated fat-containing layer from the aqueous dispersion to provide clarified aqueous solution for disposal and a controller arranged to control voltage and/or current across the electrodes and the flow of the waste water stream through the components of the plant. Also disclosed are methods for using the plant to provide efficient separation with minimized power consumption as flow and contaminant level vary.

Abstract: Processes, systems, and techniques for multivalent ion desalination of a feed water use an apparatus that has a cathode, an anode, and an electrodialysis cell located between the cathode and anode. The cell has a product chamber through which the feed water flows, a multivalent cation concentrating chamber on a cathodic side of the product chamber through which the concentrated multivalent cation solution flows, and a multivalent anion concentrating chamber on an anodic side of the product chamber through which the concentrated multivalent anion solution flows. The product chamber and the multivalent cation concentrating chamber are each bounded by and share a cation exchange membrane, and the product chamber and the multivalent anion concentrating chamber are each bounded by and share an anion exchange membrane. A monovalent ion species is added to at least one of the concentrated multivalent cation solution and the concentrated multivalent anion solution.
