    Abstract: The emission of particulates and unburnt hydrocarbons in the exhaust gas emissions from liquid hydrocarbon fuels, especially diesel fuels and fuel oils is reduced by incorporating into the fuel an effective amount of an oil-soluble alkali, alkaline earth or rare earth complex of the formula:M(R).sub.m.nLwherein M is the metal cation of valency m, R is the residue of an organic compound RH containing an active hydrocarbon atom, preferably a beta-diketone, n is an integer usually 1, 2, 3 or 4, and L is an organic donor ligand molecule, i.e., a Lewis base.

    Abstract: Methods for minimizing deposits in boilers, furnaces, incinerators or other systems firing tire derived fuels when burned in combination with other fuels which may include fuel oils are disclosed. These methods include treating the fuels so as to raise the magnesium content of the fuels or their combustion products comprising adding to the fuels one or more magnesium-containing compounds. The methods of treating tire derived fuels when they are burned with other fuels not including fuel oils includes adding to the fuel a suspension of magnesium hydroxide in water. The method of treating tire derived fuels when they are burned in combination with other fuels including fuel oils involves adding to the fuel a compound containing a magnesium-based slag mitigation component and a heavy metal combustion catalyst. In a preferred method of treating tire derived fuels when burned in combination with fuel oil, both the suspension of magnesium hydroxide in water and the solution containing the slag mitigation component and combustion catalyst are used to treat the fuels.

    Abstract: In this process for the selective noncatalytic reduction of the emission of pollutants from oil-fired boiler plants, chemical compounds which affect the combustion process are admixed, in solutions miscible with the liquid fuel, in metered amounts to the liquid fuel or to the combustion air, among these compounds being salts of organic acids, such as naphthenates, octoates, tallates, salts of sulfonic acids, saturated or unsaturated fatty acids, such as oleic acid, and tall oil, with metals from the group of K, Ba, Mg, Ca, Ce, Mn, Fe; rare earth metals; organometallic compounds, such as carbonyl compounds, mixed cyclopentadienylcarbonyl compounds, or aromatic complexes of the transition metals Fe or Mn. For the purpose of minimizing the NO.sub.x values in the waste gas and the dust load with economical consumption of chemicals, a reducing agent is introduced in metered quantities into the firebox (burner chamber) via a boiler metering system with the use of the liquid or also gaseous carrier stream as an aqueous solution of urea or also urea precursors, such as ammonia or ammonium carbonate, which can also contain further ingredients, such as alkanols, alkanecarboxylic acids, alkanals, or alkanones.

    Abstract: A composition for the improvement of hydrocarbon fuel as exhibiting a boiling range of gasoline. The composition comprises an amine, a polyaminated detergent, a phenylamine diamine inhibited aromatic monomer stabilized by a polymeric substrate, a catalyst, a solvent, a promotor, alternative promoter and co-promoter. When used collectively, the recited composition has been found to significantly increase the octane of such hydrocarbon fuels while enhancing their anti-knock, anti-icing, anti-oxidency, anti-corrosion, detergency, and combustion properties and providing a lubrication quality to spark ignition-type engines used to burn the hydrocarbon fuels.
