Abstract:
Objects: To provide a direct-acting type valve lifter that is simple in structure, involves a small number of components, and is capable of switching its valve lift between a high and a low lift.Means for Carrying Out the Invention: The valve lifter is mounted between a cam unit (20) and a valve stem (15). The cam unit (20) comprises a high-lift cam (22) and a low-lift cam (24) integrated to the high-lift cam. The valve lifter (30) is equipped with a side lifter (32) for slidably lifting the low-lift cams (24), a center lifter (40) for slidably lifting the high-lift cam, and hydraulic means (oil groove) (11b) for sliding the center lifter (40) so as to switch the valve lift in two levels, i.e. to switch between a high and a low lift. A cylindrical body of the valve lifter is provided on the top end thereof with a slit (33) for allowing the high-lift cam to freely rotate therein, and with sliding surfaces (32a) serving as a side lifter (32) to be in sliding contact with the low lift cam. Formed in the body of the valve lifter (lifter body) is a through-hole 34 perpendicular to the slit (33), which accommodate therein the piston type center lifter (40) such that the center lifter (40) can be slidably moved by a hydraulic pressure. When the center lifter (40) is located at a position aligned with the slit (33), the cam unit assumes a high lift mode. On the other hand, at a position well offset from the slit (33), the cam unit assumes a low lift mode. Thus, the valve lifter of the invention is composed of a small number of components, so that dimension tolerance demanded for the respective components are much relaxed, which permits easy assembly of the parts.
Abstract:
A rotational cam can be disposed on a camshaft rotationally driven by a crankshaft of an internal combustion engine. A swing cam can be swingable through the rotational cam. The swing cam has a rotational cam abutment portion which contacts the rotational cam and transmits driving force from the rotational cam to the swing cam. An abutment portion displacing mechanism can be provided for displacing the rotational cam abutment portion to change a relative distance between the rotational cam abutment portion and a center axis of the swing shaft. Changing the relative distance allows changing a lift and the like of a valve.
Abstract:
An regeneration system for use in a power system is disclosed. The regeneration system may include a source of intake air, an engine brake configured to reduce the speed of an engine by compression and release of the intake air, and a valve configured to divert a portion of the intake air to an auxiliary device. The regeneration system may further include a controller in communication with the engine brake and the valve. The controller may be configured to move the valve to reduce the portion of intake air diverted to the auxiliary device when the engine brake is active.
Abstract:
A variable valve operating device is provided that can swiftly adjust a valve timing of an engine and is for adjusting a valve lift and the valve timing of the engine. The variable valve operating device includes a rocking cam, a rocking cam support member, a valve, a rocking position changing unit, and a lock unit that can fix the rocking cam support member so as not to move during a valve-opening period of the valve. The lock unit includes a support base that movably supports the rocking cam support member, and a push-link which is rocked by an actuator. When a tip end of the push-link abuts against the rocking cam support member, the push-link pushes the rocking cam support member toward the support base.
Abstract:
An electromechanical VVA system for controlling the poppet valves in the cylinder head of an internal combustion engine. The system varies valve lift, duration, and phasing in a dependent manner for one or more banks of engine valves. A rocker subassembly for each valve is pivotably disposed in roller bearings on a rocker pivot shaft between the camshaft and a roller follower. A control shaft supports the rocker pivot shaft for controlling a plurality of rocker subassemblies mounted in roller bearings for a plurality of engine cylinders. The control shaft rotates about its axis to displace the rocker pivot shaft and change the angular relationship of the rocker subassembly to the camshaft, thus changing the valve opening, closing, lift and duration. An actuator attached to the control shaft includes a worm gear drive for positively rotating the control shaft.
Abstract:
A valve drive mechanism is provided for opening and closing a valve of an engine. The device comprises a valve drive device and a swing member pivotally supported on a swing member support shaft. The swing member is driven to pivot about the swing member support shaft by the valve drive device. A cam surface is formed on the swing member. The cam surface is configured to transfer motion of the swing member to a second member of the valve drive device. The cam surface comprises a first portion that is configured to contact the second member while the valve is moving from a closed or substantially closed position to an open position and a second portion configured to contact the second member when the valve is closed or substantially closed. A width of the second portion of the cam surface is smaller than a width of the first portion of the cam surface.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a contoured body having an additional cam contour for effecting a valve control of a piston combustion engine that is used, in particular, for an internal exhaust gas recirculation.
Abstract:
An engine that includes two intake and two exhaust valves for each cylinder is equipped for single valve constant lift engine braking. The exhaust valves may be actuated in a conventional manner via a rotating cam and a rocker arm coupled to a bridge that spans between the pair of exhaust valves. Engine braking is accomplished by actuating a brake actuator to hold one of the exhaust valves partially open, while the other of the two exhaust valves is allowed to close. Seating velocity of the non-braking valve is limited by including a second actuator button, namely a valve seating actuator, on the rocker arm that engages the valve bridge above the non-braking valve as it moves toward its closed position when the brake actuator is actuated.
Abstract:
A valve operating system for an engine that includes a piston that reciprocates along a piston axis. The valve operating system includes a valve member that is movable along a valve axis between a first position and a second position and a crankshaft that is rotatable about a crank axis. A cam member includes a substantially non-planar non-cylindrical surface and a cam profile superimposed thereon. A drive linkage interconnects the cam member and the crankshaft such that the cam member rotates in response to rotation of the crankshaft. A rocker arm is engaged with the valve member and the cam profile to move the valve member in response to rotation of the cam member.
Abstract:
A valvetrain system mechanization for an internal combustion engine using compression ignition, including homogeneous charge compression ignition, having two intake and one or more exhaust valves per cylinder. The valves are operated by dual overhead camshafts having two-step cams. The intake and exhaust camshafts are provided with phasers for varying the opening and closing of the intake and exhaust valves. A two-step roller finger follower is disposed for each valve between the cam lobes and the valve stem. The two sets of intake and exhaust valves are controlled by separate oil control valves. Swirl of gases may be introduced by mismatching the lifts of the valves. The valve opening times, closing times, lifts, fuel injection, compression ratio, and exhaust gas recirculation may be varied to optimize combustion conditions for a range of engine operating modes.
