Abstract: During a data protection operation, a system exploits a virtual hierarchy to centralize the configuration and management of operating system credentials of numerous virtual guests. For each virtual guest, the system uses the credential to collect a single Globally Unique Identifier (GUID) previously generated and stored in-guest by any data protection agent. The system stores the collected GUID as a custom property in the context of the virtual hierarchy. The system also exploits the virtual hierarchy custom properties to determine if GUIDs are copies due to virtual guest replication. The system ensures GUID uniqueness by requesting regeneration of the GUID by in-guest data protection agents. Using GUIDs that are unique across the virtual hierarchy, the system can correlate application data of multiple in-guest data protection agents.

Abstract: A device, apparatus, system and method for determining failure of a computer host among a plurality of hosts. The host failure detection device may be integrated in a KVM apparatus. The device monitors the video output of the plurality of hosts and if identifies a Blue Screen of Death or BIOS failure Black Screen, it issues a warning and logs the details of the discovered failure. The device may attempt to recover the failed host by transmitting emulated keyboard and mouse commands to the failed host.

Abstract: Performance thresholds are defined for operators in a flow graph for a streaming application. A streams manager deploys the flow graph to one or more virtual machines (VMs). The performance of each portion of the flow graph on each VM is monitored. A VM is selected. When the performance of the portion of the flow graph in the selected VM does not satisfy the defined performance threshold(s), a determination is made regarding whether the portion of the flow graph is underperforming or overperforming. When the portion of the flow graph is underperforming, the portion of the flow graph is split into multiple portions that are implemented on multiple VMs. When the portion of the flow graph is overperforming, a determination is made of whether a neighbor VM is also overperforming. When a neighbor VM is also overperforming, the two VMs may be coalesced into a single VM.

Abstract: In one example, backing up disk array volumes creates a snapshot of a volume of a disk array. Unshared blocks between a previous snapshot and the snapshot are identified to generate an allocation map. Source-side de-duplication is performed for a stream comprising the snapshot. The unshared blocks are folded into an endpoint store that includes a full backup of the volume, to generate a synthetic full of the volume.

Abstract: Apparatuses, systems, methods, and computer program products are disclosed for hybrid checkpointed memory. An extended memory module uses volatile memory of a host and a non-volatile memory medium as virtual memory for the host. A clone module clones data of a range of virtual memory in response to a checkpoint event for the range of virtual memory. A range of virtual memory may include data stored in a volatile memory and data stored in a non-volatile memory medium. A checkpoint module flushes dirty data of a range of virtual memory to a non-volatile memory medium in response to a checkpoint event. A hybrid checkpointed memory interface provides access to data of a range of virtual memory while dirty data is being flushed using data of a range of virtual memory, or using a clone of the data.

Abstract: Examples maintain consistency of writes for a plurality of VMs during live migration of the plurality from a source host to a destination host. The disclosure intercepts I/O writes to a migrated VM at a destination host and mirrors the I/O writes back to the source host. This “reverse replication” ensures that the CG of the source host is up to date, and that the source host is safe to fail back to if the migration fails.
