    Abstract: An apparatus is provided to test valves. The apparatus includes a sensor and a driving mechanism. The driving mechanism is configured to control an external camshaft that is coupled to a valve train of an engine head. The apparatus controls the driving mechanism to control a rotation of the external camshaft that further controls an activation of each valve of the valve train associated with the engine head. The apparatus further controls the sensor to acquire information associated with the activation of each valve of the valve train based on the rotation of the external camshaft. The apparatus further compares the acquired information with pre-stored information, to determine an abnormality in each valve of the valve train, and generates a notification based on the comparison.

    Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for providing secondary air to an exhaust system during catalyst warm-up. In one example, a method may include, during a cold start condition, operating an engine with a first number of cylinders unfired and a remaining number of cylinders fired during an engine cycle, opening an intake valve of an unfired cylinder of the first number of cylinders during an expansion stroke of the unfired cylinder, and opening an exhaust valve of the unfired cylinder during a compression stroke of the unfired cylinder. In this way, the unfired cylinders may provide the secondary air to the exhaust system during a stroke that increases mixing of the secondary air with burned exhaust gas from fired cylinders, thus increasing exotherm production in the exhaust system to increase a temperature of the catalyst.

    Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for providing compression release during a stop/start event in an engine. In one example, a method includes: responsive to a request for a stop/start event in an engine with a continuously variable valve lift (CVVL) system including a compression release hydraulic valve actuator coupled to a valve of a first cylinder, determining a desired stop position of the engine; and prior to restarting the engine during the stop/start event, adjusting the compression release hydraulic valve actuator to open the valve during a compression stroke of the first cylinder. In this way, an amount of torque used to restart the engine may be reduced.

    Abstract: A force transfer arrangement for transferring a force from a rotating camshaft to an output device, that is able to reduce the transversal force on the camshaft. The proposed connection device force transfer arrangement is configured to cause forces to act on the camshaft from substantially opposite directions which effectively produces a resultant force on the camshaft to be close to zero, or at least be reduced compared to prior art force transfer solutions. Thus, the transverse forces on the camshaft and therefore on e.g. bearings supporting the camshaft are reduced thereby the lifetime of the bearings is prolonged.

    Abstract: A valve actuation system for an engine includes a rotatable camshaft, an injector actuation linkage, and a valve actuation linkage. The valve actuation linkage includes a valve lifter, a valve pushrod, and a rocker arm. At least one of a rocker arm center plane defined by the valve rocker arm or a lifter roller center plane defined by the valve lifter is spaced an offset distance from a pushrod axis, providing an increased contact width between an injector roller in the injector actuation linkage and one of a plurality of cam lobes of the camshaft. The valve lifter includes a fork defining a center plane spaced an offset distance from a center axis of the valve lifter. A rocker arm includes a screw bore offset relative to a rocker arm center plane.
