Abstract: A lignocellulosic starting material can be converted into an aqueous phase and a hydrocarbon phase in a one-step process by subjecting a mixture of the lignocellulosic starting material, an amorphous and unsupported sulfided nickel-molybdenum catalyst, and optionally a co-feed, to not less than a stoichiometric amount of hydrogen, elevated pressure and a temperature in the interval of 350-450° C. A novel catalyst for use in said process and a method for its production are also disclosed.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a method for the production of precursor fiber for the production of carbon fiber, comprising the steps: a) a) forming a spinning dope comprising a dissolving pulp, a lignin and an alkali metal hydroxide dissolved in water (s201); 5 b) extruding the spinning dope through a spinning nozzle to provide a fibrous extrudate (s203); and c) passing the fibrous extrudate through a coagulation liquid to provide the precursor fiber (s205); wherein the coagulation liquid is arranged to effect precipitation of the precursor fiber by regulation of pH and/or ionicity. The disclosure further relates to precursor fibers and carbon fibers produced by the method above, as well as spinning dopes used in the method.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of producing holocellulose fibres by treating a wood-based raw material with an organic peroxide, wherein the method comprises charging the organic peroxide continuously to the wood-based raw material during the treatment and/or charging the organic peroxide to the wood-based raw material in at least two separate steps with an intermediate alkaline treatment step. Additionally, a process for the production of paper comprising the steps of preparing a papermaking stock comprising an aqueous pulp slurry comprising cellulosic fibres and having a fibre consistency of from 0.1 to 40% by weight, wherein the cellulosic fibres comprise or consist of holocellulose fibres, and wherein the amount of the wood-based holocellulose fibres is from 0.5 to 100% by weight, based on the total weight of the stock; providing the stock to a wire and form a web; dewatering the web; and drying the web is claimed. By the method affordable way to produce holocellulose fibres usable in the process to provide paper with high strength is provided, while effective dewatering can be obtained during the manufacturing process.
